It breaks records because it was given enough screens to do so. It's getting nearly every screen of multiplexes in many locations.

It has a good chance of overtaking Avatar too. Apparently Saturday numbers should be insane.

It will be interesting to see if it has the staying power of Avatar. Personally, I don't plan on seeing TFA again.

Titanic had more staying power with me anyway. I saw it a few times at the theatre.

Don't forget all the money they rake in from merchandising (I'm sure there's a video game in the works). Combined, I'm sure it will easily make over a billion.
