This view was widely held until the 1980s when pro-gun organizations began claiming that federal regulation of the individual use of firearms violated Americans' Second Amendment rights.

The second amendment has never been just for or about militias, in language or intent. Law abiding citizens owning guns in this day and age is what the Founding Fathers would have wanted, in my humble opinion.

I do believe we need to tighten laws, but I wish other liberals would acknowledge that that's not going to make these mass shootings disappear.
