I don't know. Michigan is a blue state by double digits for national elections, and cast more ballots for democrats than republicans for the legislatures, but somehow there are 38 state senate seats, of which only 11 are democrats. Seems like a partisan map to me. But that's the Michigan senate, where the republicans have had control for 30 years because they're not required to give equal representation. Some districts have as many as 300,000 people, some as few as 190,000, yet it's still one vote for both. Shameful. Even when it was the democrats in charge. Votes should be apportioned by people, not acreage.

You're pretty stupid aren't you? You can't gerrymander the Senate (except when admitting states) because Senators are elected by the whole state. Where Gerrymandering matters is in the House, and there it's very real. For example, in 2012, Republicans actually got fewer votes for the House than Democrats but retained their lead in the House. The effect is even more striking when you look at the state level disparities between the number of votes Republicans got and the number of seats they won. For example, in Ohio in 2012, they got IIRC fifty something percent of the votes for the House but, because of Gerrymandering, they were awarded about 75% of the seats.

With gerrymandering you have districts that look like DNA or something. They might be long and skinny, with twists and turns all over the place and no rational boundaries. There is one in Houston where within one neighborhood and one block, the people on one side of the street belong to one district and those on the other side of the street to another.

Except California's map was drawn by a commission of democrats, republicans, and independents. Three republicans on the commission voted for that same map. It's not gerrymandering.
