i think so, but the question is how many care? their circulation is way down anyway, and they stopped nudes on their website some time back. this may kill them, who knows?

I haven't subscribed in a few years, but Playboy generally has great interviews and interesting short stories.

The pictorials have always been very tame and were not the draw for many adults, I don't think.

I never cared for their journalism, as it was usually politics related, and I just don't care much about politics.

Yeah, I have read some good interviews in Playboy (articles as well). I think people are more willing to speak freely in a Playboy interview, as opposed to a more serious context, which makes for a more interesting read.

Oh yeah, historically they've produced some of the best articles and interviews.

But wasn't the nudity done partially as a means of artistic expression and women's lib or something like that? I mean it was done partially to make the magazine stand out from other magazines. It wasn't fully done to be titillating.

Alas, this suggests that Playboy has accepted the idea that it was in fact showing nudes for sex appeal. Why can it not remain the classy locale for nudes, away from the internets?
I guess it's about money too, what could Playboy offer someone to pose nude that someone couldn't sell on their own?

Quality journalism is a dying art form, but this isn't exactly going to bring it back.

Besides, what I like about "Playboy" versus the internet is the "Girl of the Big 10" type stuff where they get ORDINARY attractive women to pose nude; women who never did it before and probably won't do it again. It's just not that much of a thrill seeing worn-out porn skanks with fake breasts and all kinds of other "work", even if it's free on the internet.

From a business standpoint it's probably a good move, to stay relevant and to directly compete with magazines like Maxim, GQ, and Esquire. It'll allow them to transition to a more respectable brand image, which is kind of what they always thought of themselves anyway, rather than being associated with porn.

Well, that's a terrible idea. I also hear Nintendo plans to make another Super Mario Bros. game without Mario or Luigi.
