Is Society too sensitive & easily offended by a button

Likes is all about feeding self esteem, people so desperately look for validation from other.

I wonder how many Facebook people will unfriend me once I start using that dislike button.

Uh, no that's not what likes are for. Likes are for the person doing the liking to acknowledge that they enjoyed what they have read and they want more things like that.

But really who the hell cares? If a dislike button means so much to you, get a life.

You're thinking too flat, kind of stupid and missing the big picture.

Psychologists at Brunel University examined and proved the relation of Facebook and certain personality traits.

who the hell cares?

Any rational person who is interested in Sociology or the role of social media

If a dislike button means so much to you, get a life

If a dislike button does not mean much to you, why bother replying? You're wasting time here, oh you don't have life anyway

Not necessarily. If I like the person, I'll often like their posts and instagramed sunsets and pictures of their dogs or whatever even if I'm not overly impressed with the content. Clicking on that button is the easiest thing in the world and I know it's usually appreciated. Let's face it, getting lots of likes feels kinda nice no matter who you are. It does indeed feed one's self-esteem, but what's wrong with that?

As for this dislike button, I think it's a terrible idea. It will just create another layer of pointless FB drama. Frankly, I don't need to know when people hate my posts.

My understanding is the DISLIKE button is only going to be for sadness, sympathy.

Not sure how they can control that.

That kind of doesn't make sense to me, because elsewhere on the internet, such as the comments sections on news articles and such, the dislike button is to show disapproval of someone else's comment, such as when someone is trolling or abusive.

So that's the opposite of sadness and sympathizing; Facebook making it mean "Oh no that's awful to hear!" is going to seem confusing to a lot of people who are used to the opposite meaning elsewhere, surely.

I understand the need of a new button

I have always thought it strange to click the Like button when someone tells you their dad just died.

The need a 'sorrow button'

Yeah, more than just Like or Dislike, they need a sorrow button that posts a hug or something --- > (=)

One possible solution to allow expression but without causing unnecessary drama: restrict it to posts made by pages.

the account of people who unlike me from facebook to start is stupid this will only make it worse.
