Dudes with Cats
1 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 03:13
I was talking with a friend (yes, I have one), and I was sharing with him my discomfort with men who live alone and own a cat. It just doesn't seem right.
Now, if he has the cat from a family member or an ex, that's a little different, but if he lives on his own and goes out to get a cat, it just makes me feel wary. And multiple cats ups the uncomfort level exponentially.
I don't know. Am I alone on this?
2 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 12:17
Like Ryan Reynolds in The Voices?
3 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 12:45
What do you fear specifically? That they'll try to kiss you? That they won't be any fun if you invite them over to watch football? Expand on your whole discomfort idea.
4 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 13:03
No. I don't have any issues with gay guys. But the fact that you assume a man living alone with a cat (or a man uncomfortable with a man living alone with a cat) is because he's gay, only confirms that it isn't rational to think of an ordinary male going out and getting a cat.
Like, they could have bodies in the basement, or are plotting revenge against something/someone.

Kittens are cute, I'll give you that. But then they grow up to become @$$holes.
7 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 15:36
Some dudes live or lived in at some point in an apartment. You can't have dogs in an apartment so they'll get a cat. And then if they move into a house they keep the cat or get another one cause they're a cat person. We call these people homo-sexual.
8 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 15:57
Anyone, any gender who owns a cat is a secret sociopath.
9 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 16:10
And cats know that!
10 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 16:28
Ex
at present I do not have a cat. that is because they are not allowed where I live. truly i would love to have a Siberian Husky red and white.
11 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 16:58
What are you wary of? Do you think it's really his familiar demon?
12 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 17:18
I have no problem with peoples' familiars, as I'm rarely the one to set them off.
13 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 17:29
Then what is the problem?
I'm not a cat person myself--I consider a cat a consolation pet, when you can't have a dog--but I don't see why a man's having one would make you wary of him. Multiple cats is a bit different, as I imagine that brings up the idea that he's the male equivalent of a crazy cat lady.
14 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 17:53
If I inquired as to why the man had a cat and he explained it was his familiar, it puts me a little at ease that his spirituality implores him to do so.
When they just do it because they like it... I don't know. It just triggers an uneasy feeling.
Example: When Sheldon Cooper ("The Big Bang Theory"), got into a disagreement with Amy, he resorted to taking in a bunch of cats to make him feel better.
(I know it's just a work of fiction, but) That's the kind of men who get cats.

>>14Because this is a very Troy in season 1 thread. Troy believed that all cats were female and all dogs were male. They let Troy get a lot less stupid after season one. Probably because Donald Glover is so bright.
16 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 18:12
Well, Sheldon was doing a bit of a male crazy cat lady act there.
17 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 18:23
Nah, I've known dudes with cats who are totally normal guys.
One was a musician with a hot girlfriend but they didn't live together because he wanted his options open, and he was more interested in his music and the band anyway.
He was also just an animal lover and he took in a couple of strays. He was just a straight, cool, bit of a hipster musician guy with a good heart toward homeless animals. He liked dogs too, he just didn't have the time for a dog.
Cats make for convenient pets for busy people who don't want to have to walk a dog three times a day, as cats don't need what dogs need, and can be independent just hanging out while you go do things.
Just saw
>>10 post and he makes a good point - some apartment managers have an easier time letting a tenant have a cat than a dog.
18 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 18:33
there are some therapists who don't charge that much $$$ and you should find one and get over your sick problems
19 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 18:44
I'm not shrieking in the streets or attacking male cat owners with a hatchet.
That's what hobos are for.
20 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 18:54
it is still a symptom of a deeper psych problem that u need to get treated. its an ugly illness
21 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 19:05
>>19You just outed yourself as an iCarly fan. iCarly is the only place in American pop culture where the word hobo has been used for homeless in the last 50 years. My knowing that has outed me as an iCarly fan. It's a risk I'm willing to take.
22 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 19:16
>>21Unless I'm fifty. Or a hobo. Ever think of that?
Also, I recommend to anyone to read "Little Billy's Letters" by William Gerhart. He was an out-of-work writer in the '90s who wrote to murderers, celebrities, and politicians pretending to be a third grader on assignment. The responses he gets back are hilarious (because they're so honest).
And yes, there is a chapter involving hobos.
23 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 19:26
>>22Anyway if you like Community you'll probably like iCarly. Emma Stone was on the Tonight Show a few years back & mentioned she was going to do a guest appearance on iCarly. Jay Leno looked horrified. Emma Stone said iCarly was the funniest show on television. So I started DVRing it. It may not be THE funniest, but there are enough moments of comic genius that it was well worth watching.
24 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 19:36
Thank you so much, now I finally know why my students were running around calling everyone hobos a few years ago. By the way, a hobo is not just an ordinary homeless person, it's a traveler!
Also, I have cats. Three of them. I got them with my ex, though.
25 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 19:47
I live alone and own a cat. Would prefer to have a SO and a cat.
Someone needed to let go of it and I reluctantly agreed. Have never really been a dog person. When I grew up, my friends' dogs would often protect them from me. One bit through the back of my hand and later bit a kid's ear off. But since I had one I can relate to them and have no problem offering my hand low and palm up to a pit bull.
I like my cat best when she's outside, which is 90% of the time. When she's inside, she's a pain in the ass. In some ways, she's more like a dog. She goes upstairs on the railing and meows at me. No goddam idea what she wants, usually. Sometimes it means she wants to be let out and she leads me back downstairs to the door. She hates to be picked up, but will sometimes jump on me to knead me in the balls when I lie down.
26 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 19:58
>>25So.. you're a masochist? I can understand that.
27 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 20:08
I've been told I am for my craziness over scorpion pepper and ghost pepper anything. But what's the cat connection? If she kneads the wrong spot she's getting shoved, if that's what you mean.
28 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 20:18
She kneads the wrong spot, you kick her away. Yet she keeps kneading the wrong spot, and you haven't kicked her to the curb yet.
(The Presidents of the United States of America sang a song about a similar situation)
Maybe I was reading to much into it. As a Catholic, you're always seeking those who suffer as well.
But why do you have a female cat? Would a dude with a male cat be weirder? I think so.
29 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 20:24
Having a cat is the only sensible choice as they take care of themselves. Dogs just take up too much free time and are needy whiners.
30 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 20:31
31 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 20:41
>>30that kid killed himself, so bad example

Crom's devils! That went grim real fast. I am Ingram, however. Man of many contingencies:

33 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 21:02
>>32yeah, feel bad for the poor kid.
34 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 21:12
Just cats or pets in general?
Cats rock, they are so low maintenance.
Dogs are great, but if you're gonna have a dog, might as well have a kid instead, so much work.
35 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 21:23
>>34You're so right. Dogs are awesome but they are so much work. I love my cats because they are great creatures and they are so much easier to take care of.
36 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 21:33
Honestly, you sound scared of strong people, since it's well known and obvious that people who own small pets (cats and small dogs) are the strong ones who have pets in order to protect the pet, while weaklings and sissies, and of course women, own big dogs in order to have an animal protect them.
Very basic, and widely understood by 100% of people, cause it's Nature. So, you sound like you have sour grapes, and the chick you like is hot for a cat owner.
You know it. I know it. No sense in denying it.
37 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 21:43
That's going to be news to people who own large hunting dogs and sled dogs.
38 Name: Futuristipastica11Cauoo+XsTV : 2015-09-15 21:54
Dudes with Gerbils.
39 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 22:04
Does that mean I'm gay? Damn all these years and I never knew.
40 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 22:15
I never said my problem with dudes who own cats was due to the assumption that they would be gay. (What's wrong with being gay anyway?)
It just feels like they wouldn't want you looking around in their basement too long...
41 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 22:25
>>40I don't have a basement.
42 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 22:35
>>41That's good. I feel a little better now.
...you don't have a work shed out back, do you?
43 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 22:41
Cats are awesome. I'm not sure why there is such a negative stigma attached to them. They're way more interesting than dogs, and a lot easier to own. Before I met my wife, I lived alone and had 3 cats.
44 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 22:47
I think the stigma basically stems from the fact that they're not always the nicest of animals to be around, but I agree it's ridiculous.
45 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 22:52
Agreed.
And I love how common folk say cats are dumb and dogs are smart.
No, cats are smart because they're not going to let you train them, DUH.
46 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 22:59
Cats are smart enough to know that they own us, not the other way around. Cats train their humans to do what they want.
47 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 23:08
Spayed, neutered, jailed in small rooms, hunted if trying to do their own thing - kind of like the communist vision for the world.
Not surprising anonymous supports this.
48 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 23:17
Dogs are too stupid to know eating shit is not a good thing. Dog owners are worse because they then let shitty mouthed dog lick them. Perhaps if you were so needy and pathetic you needed a creature that blindly worshipped you it would make sense to get a dog. However, that same creature would blindly worship anyone with a rancid hotdog or a turd so it's sort of pointless isn't it?
49 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 23:22
I would be game for owning a cat...if I liked cats. But I hate them. The cat we had when I was a kid would always cringe up and back away every time I tried to pet it, like it was just the most godawful thing to be touched by me. I live alone and own a big labrador, and he's a much better companion than a cat could ever be.
50 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 23:28
Stupid stereotype people seem to have that cats/cat owners are feminine and "real men" prefer dogs. I personally don't currently own a cat but anyone who does (male or female) is cool with me.
51 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 23:33
Until my girlfriend moved in with me, I lived alone with two cats. Cats are amazing creatures and anyone who has a problem with a single guy owning a cat is an idiot.
52 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 23:39
What's wrong with a guy owning cats? I'm a dog person myself but I'll admit that owning a dog is an expensive thing. Cats are low maintenance that way since they are more independent and do most of their things themselves.
53 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 23:44
You seem beastie-curious tbh, don't see the problem
54 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-15 23:56
If you die in your sleep, dogs will howl and mourn and never leave your side until your body is collected.
Cats will eat your corpse before the body is cold.
55 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-16 00:03
56 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-16 00:14
>>54Maybe one dog (or cat) in a million will do that. Most will forget you if someone else offers them a piece of bacon or a turd.
57 Name: Anonymous : 2015-09-16 00:24
A good 'Daily Mash' article today about the perils of dog ownership. Cats get a bit of a mention:

I raise them as food for my pet condors, I hope that doesn't make me unmanly or anything.
