I don't care about that, but what really annoys me is when they pronounce "literally" as "li-truh-ly."

It evolved from the term "Holy Day" People wouldn't go into work because it was a Holy Day. Over time, as language evolved, it became the less religious sounding holiday.

In the middle ages, people didn't go on vacation. They didn't get "holidays." They worked until they died and only traveled for exploration or war. Hence, any time off work would've been for these "holy days."

Since old habits die hard, British people will call any time away from work a "holiday."

I don't know why they can't just learn to speak and write normal American English like they're supposed to. Until they have leaders that can speak as clearly and eloquently as George W. Bush and Donald Trump nobody is going to take them seriously or think they're smart or educated.

As a Canadian it's funny just how literal British terminology, & even American terminology to an extent, can be.

A better question is why do Americans put the month first when listing the date, followed by the day and then the year. It should be in the correct order; the day followed by the month and finally the year 30/08/2015, not 8/30/2015. How very queer.

Why not? Personally it sounds nicer to me than "vacation".
