Irrational Man (2015)

Aloha is definitely a massive flop: bombed in theaters and received negative reviews from critics

Irrational Man: it won't make much money due just released in limited numbers of theaters, but it wasn't met with critical acclaim; the film is not likely to get some major nominations at Academy Awards, Cannes or Golden Globe

You do know it is a Woody Allen film - which means it was probably made with a very low budget. Also it's only been on wide release for a week and yet to be released overseas where Allen's films almost always make at least twice of what they do in the US.

Regardless of who is in them, Allen films are never expected to take the Box Office by storm, but also rarely lose money.

It's really more of Woody Allen's second POS in a row. It's better than Magic in the Moonlight, but it's still crap. Think someone should call it quits, or wait until he has a half-decent script rather than churn things out every year.

All you have to do is watch the trailer for Irrational Man and see whose fault it is: Joaquin Phoenix posing with a speech bubble saying "I have no insight to the character but he's supposed to be on drugs, so I'm really lazy and hungover and *beep* them, nobody will notics".

But we do notice. That's why the speech bubble I couldn't help but see.

Emma Stone should get an Oscar for pretending to act with him. Woody, well maybe time to get another casting director for Woody.

Except neither falls on her, since they're the failures of their writer/directors.

It's not that surprising that Woody Allen's last couple of films have been mediocre or worse.. but not a lot of people want to talk about it because there's the tacit understanding that he's in the twilight of his career.

Woody Allen has never been worse than mediocre - and I wouldn't describe his latest films as mediocre at all. People who dismiss his latest films, it seems to me, are doing so on the basis of their trailers - each of which is deliberately hiding the true nature of its film, what it's about and how clever it is.

At his peak, he's still a great filmmaker. I admit that I haven't seen Irrational Man, but it was a completely conscious choice when the word on the street was that it was a little worse than Magic in the Moonlight, a film which didn't impress me. I will wait for his next film with some hope.

Why are you obsessed with Hollywood finances? Who cares what made how much and when?
