The cure for cancer.
1 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 15:16
I know it sounds crazy but who else believes someone, somewhere has the cure for cancer. I mean think about it, it's a billion dollar industry. Cigarette companies get the smokers to buy millions of packs a day, and then those smokers then pay millions of dollars in healthcare. Think of all the money lost if cancer was eradicated.

>>1 is right, cancer is a buisness
3 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 15:42
It has already been thought OP, everybody knows if the cure for cancer was found businesses would prevent it from hitting the markets. However your theory is retarded, how does it benefit the cigarette companies by hiding it? If anything it makes it helps sell cigs because cancer would no longer be a problem. It is those chemo and radiation companies who are holding it back. Shit is expensive, why let people buy a one time cure when they can get chemo for a long period of time. Also the wig companies are in on it.

>>1There is no cure for cancer. This is basic biology. Cancer is just a by-product of life's genetic mechanisms: mistakes will always be made, and every so often one of those mistakes will cause a cell to keep dividing forever. There's no way to prevent this unless you somehow manage to change the way mitosis works.
5 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 15:55
>>4No, you change the way measles works so it only attacks cancerous cells. Infect patient, wait, profit.
6 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 16:00
>>5Another exciting one is designing chemically-tagged nanoparticles that attach to tumor cells (that is the part they are working on) and then using radiation which does not harm other cells to heat up the nanoparticles and nothing else, killing the cancer (this part they have tested already)
7 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 16:07
OP is a nigger, because think about how much money having exclusive rights to the cure to cancer would make.
8 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 16:16
>>6Has it been proven accurate?
9 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 16:25
>>4This
OP is a nigger that thinks there is a single disease that is called "cancer", that is treatable and curable, rather than the clusterfuck of genetic mutation it is.
Cancer is not an infection you can eradicate, or an inflammation you can control. It is your own tissue rebelling against the tyrannical rule of your genetic code.
The reason chemotherapy works at all is because it kills every fast-growing tissue cells in your body (thus, hair loss), and even that is a hit-and-miss.

>>6That's a variation of the one that mechanic came up with. Implant gold particles into immune cells that go for the cancer, hit the area with microwaves, gold heats very quickly and kills the surrounding cancer cells.
11 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 16:32
>>10And probably kills all healthy cells around it as well.
12 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 16:38
>>7implying it wouldn't be replicated
You think that would amount to more money then consumers buying 2 packs @ $10/ea a day?
If they did release a "cure" you'd figure people wouldn't go back to smoking after they get cured. Now they just figure fuck it. No smoking == / == No sales
13 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 16:44
>>8Yeah, the radiation only heats up the nanoparticles, doesn't heat up other materials in the body. The nanoparticles are stuck to the cancerous growth so it hurts the growth. I don't think the biochemistry to get the nanoparticles to latch on to the cancer is done yet.
14 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 16:52
>>4The immune system itself is a defense against cancer.
It just doesn't catch it all the time.
15 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 17:17
>>1Cancer isn't one thing. It's an umbrella term used to describe any condition where a cell multiplies out of control. For every new case this is caused by a new random mutation. There are as many types of cancer as there are patients.
16 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 17:40
>>4Indeed. Its just an overmultiplication of cells due to a faulty mitosis. Even then, trying to enhance or induce cell apoptosis in a targeted area is not going to work.
That being said, there'll always be cancer, especially other /lounge/s. Summer is coming.
17 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 18:02
>>5and how are you going to do that. Any type of cell can become cancerous, so can have any kind of membrane proteins, so can look like literally any other cell. The only thing that really tells cancerous cells apart from other cells is that they're rapidly dividing, which is what chemotherapy targets (hence it also kills off other rapidly-dividing cells like hair follicles)

>>1I sort of know the cure for cancer.
Only problem is most people couldnt dp it.
The person I saw cure cancer said, if you need to be shown how, you cant do it.

>>1Cuba has had the cure for cancer for years and its only just now showing up in the news. Nobody believes it either. Cubanfag here, I've had family members sneak in the medication to the US and I've seen it work with my own eyes.
20 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 18:53
>>13So it only hurts the growth, sounds more like a treatment than an actually cure, which is a major problem with trying to cure it somehow
21 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 19:00
>>20You make a good point. I think there would still be the awful process of remission etc., it is just less dangerous and less invasive than chemo.
22 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 19:11
>>11Actually no, that's the beauty of it. The heat is so brief and so localized that it only destroys the cancerous cells the antibodies are latched on to.
>>17There's a specific thing that's lacking in cancerous cells, obviously. Nearly all viruses ignore cancer cells. That's what gave them the idea, since measles is one of only two or three that attacks both healthy and cancerous cells. They removed its ability to attack healthy cells and limited its ability to reproduce, so it dies off after a certain number of divisions.
23 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 19:19
>>1Then why did Jobs for example, and multiple others, die of cancer when they could have single-handedly paid multiple billions each had a cure existed?
24 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 19:39
>>21Still sounds dangerous though, even if it did cure it you most likely will just get some other fucked up problem or disease that will just cause more medical problems
25 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 19:43
>>17And no, chemotherapy targets everything in its path. It's deadly radiation. That's what makes people on chemo so horribly sick.
26 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 19:59
>>1I bet they've found the cure years ago... As for the over-population of the earth, the government will never release it. This is why so much of our food has cancerous chemicals and by-products. Everything causes cancer.
27 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 20:04
JEEZUS H CHRIST YOU PIOUSLY ENTITLED FUCKS: DNA sequencing has just recently reached a realistic price/performance ratio. Every form of cancer is unique to whomever has it as their body produced it w/unique DNA. It's all still being studied and put together, and I guarantee there's a few rooms full of lab monkeys. But tell me this? What makes U think you're worth the effort of saving?
28 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 20:08
>>25Chemotherapy=radiation
Nope
Chemotherapy....CHEMotherapy...CHEMicals...
29 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 20:12
>>24you most likely will just get some other fucked up problem or disease
Why the shit would that happen?
30 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 20:24
>>26Or mabye your just a paranoid nut case. Which seems more likely? All the world's government's are working together and everyone is out to get you, or your just crazy?
31 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-16 21:53
>>1your fucking stupid, think about all the money earned if there was a cure for cancer, they'd have to pay for the cure and then they keep buying packs of smokes cuz they still alive
32 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-17 01:10
They will never let a cure for cancer be found, too many people on Earth.
33 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-17 01:55
A cure would improve everybody's profits exponentially. Cigarette companies would be richer than ever since people would be smoking safe in the knowledge they have a cure if they ever get cancer.
34 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-17 02:28
>>1There can not be one single cure for cancer, each type of cancer needs to be dealt with separately, trust me I'm an expert because I watched a video

>>29Thats how medicine seems to work for alot of major diseases nowadays, cure one disease, just for the medication to give you another major problem
37 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-18 13:20
>>28No, you idiot. You pack the cancerous tumor full of foil particles and hit it with a short burst of low level microwaves. It dies, you're fine. Jesus Christ with the handholding.
38 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-18 15:14
>>35No you specifically called chemotherapy radiation. You said "chemotherapy targets everything in its path. It's deadly radiation. That's what makes people on chemo so horribly sick." Oh, and by the way, the reason that chemotherapy makes you sick is because it attacks all of the rapidly multiplying cells in your body. This includes hair cells (that's why you loose hair), cancer cells, and the cells that form the lining of your stomache. The stomache cells dying off are what leads to international distress. Not radiation.
39 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-18 19:28
>>1Consider this, retards: why wouldn't a company just sell a cure for cancer if they had it? if they had a cure for cancer, they'd be cemented in history as the greatest company to ever exist. This idea of "the cancer industry" is pants-on-head retarded.
40 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-19 00:04
>>1 seems unlikely when you know what cancer really is.
defective cells that reproduce at a high rate and keep fucking shit up. thats why people call /lounge/ cancer.
if there was some sort of medicine that could kill all defective cells it would need to be specially created for each person and would probably be more expensive than chemo and radiation
