Let me give you an example of social progress. Before 1975 women were not considered people. They were property. When the US gained independence, it adopted English common law.

Accordingly, a girl would be the property of her father until she got married, and then she would be handed over to her husband. Since the early 1900s there has been a civil rights struggle, until in 1975 it was ruled that women could serve as peers in a jury. The same has happened with black people. If you take a look at how they are treated now compared to half a century ago, there is a tremendous difference. As a matter of fact, it's interesting. Everyone has heard of King's speech of "I have a dream". You all learned that in school. But what is usually not told is what comes after. It was not just black rights he wanted, but worker's rights as well, of workers owning the means of production. That's where he went too far, so he was killed. But you don't hear about that, because it's not in the interest of the corporate media.

Here's another example: the Occupy movement. It is sometimes criticized; people say that it didn't achieve anything. This is not true. It has had a major impact, more than I had expected. I was surprised by it, didn't think it would work, but it did. People have gotten more organized, there have been offshoots, such as Occupy the 'hood. One major achievement is the phrase "the 99%". This now exists in the public consciousness. You shouldn't underestimate the importance of such matter. There are other examples, I could go into the details if you like.

One problem is that public schools are run by sheltered leftist bureaucrats who believe that everybody can become a nuclear physicist at Harvard. If public schools introduced more vocational-type options starting in middle-school, the average boy would have a productive outlet for their energy. I'm talking about stuff like carpentry, plumbing, and construction.
