They hate the smell of peppermint as do spiders, so if you ever have a rat or spider infestation use some peppermint oil extract, or crush some peppermint candies into dust, mix the dust with 91 percent isopropylene alcohol, then after one days time filter the solution through a coffee filter, then put it in a spray bottle and apply it to the areas were the pests reside.

Make sure to shake the isopropylene solution, over the 24 hour time frame as you let it mix.
