At my work we have this fucking ancient 10' radial arm drill, made in pommie land back in the day. It is so worn and flogged out it can't even handle drilling 5mm per side on the larger drills it just shakes and bounces around even with the arm lock on and fucks the job up. One day the power raise/lower mechansim fucked up and the lead screw that powers it popped up through the top of the worm drive gear box on top and the whole arm dropped about 2 feet like a stone. It was also shorted out sometimes in its bakelite fuse box and took out power to that whole side of the shop, yet my work place still refuses to dump the fucking thing and just keeps putting band-aid repairs onto it.
I work at the tightest place imaginable. I mainly run the CNC wire EDM, it's literally 24 years old and has a DOS based control system and the only way to get data onto it is with floppy disks. It fucks up all the time and is seriously innacurate yet the boss doesn't see it. Then one day the owner comes up to me and says "Hey! I bought a new wire cutter for you!"
When it actually arrived it was OLDER than the one we already had, and when they opened up the controller all the PC boards had been removed and then just thrown back in there loosely before it was shipped to us free to slide around and fuck shit up. Now the machine just sits there un-used and forgotten about.
