i have an ulcer.
1 Name: Anonymous : 2014-11-17 02:10
Hey /lounge/.
I'm 99.9% sure i have an mouth ulcer and the pain/swelling as subsided a bit over the past couple of days but it still fucking stings every now and then and is a general pain in the ass, Can any med fags give me some tips on how to get rid of it faster? I usually get ulcers on my inner cheeks and they're easy to deal with, but I've never had this before.
Also I'm a Uni student that isn't fortunate enough to have his parents pay for everything like some spoiled cunts so all my money goes to rent, food and textbooks so dentist is not an option.
Thanks in advanced /lounge/rs.

Most universities in the US provide a cheap insurance fee and at the very least provide a local "quack shack"

>>1I've had them since forever. It's either stress induced or your eating habits are shit.
Basically your saliva is too acid. You probably eat too much chocolate or you're stressed as fuck.
There are several remedies for it, another name for those ulcers is aphta.

>>1I'd advise drinking a lot of milk. I get those a lot when I drink orange juice or anything with a lot of citric acid, and milk tends to help. Not necessarily with the pain, but it does make it heal up just that little bit faster.

>>1Hey OP, pharmacy student / intern here.
The best thing you can do is keep your mouth clean. You can go and buy some oralgel and apply that to the ulcer to subside the pain, however I don't know of any real over the counter remedies that would make it go away.
Start using some mouth wash, keep dirty shit (your fingers) out of your mouth and try to reduce your acidic food in take. You can apply oralgel (should be that shit you give to teething babies, itll have novocain in it) for pain. gl faggot

>>4Probably stress induced, I've been freaking out over marks on an assignment that could potentially fail me, so I wouldn't be surprised.
>>5Bingo, white and burns a bit.

>>8Best remedy is to chill the fuck out.
I know it's easier said than done. It should go away within a week of your stress being gone.

>>6Thanks for the advice anon
>>7I'll pick up some mouth wash tomorrow then, I've been meaning to anyway. I'll grab some oralgel too I guess, probably look like a twat doing so, but whatever.
>>9Yeah man I'll try and relax a bit more, at the very least to stop any more of these fucking things popping up.
Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

>>1Because of what you eat and chew gun that has (forgot name of chemical) to clean out and reforce enamel of teeth and forces mouth to produce saliva that further protects mouth from attacks
tfw teeth cuts my own mouth when I'm not careful talking

>>10Just talk to the pharmacist. He might know a better remedy than me, but im pretty sure he'll tell you the same thing I did. There should be an adult formulation of oral gel, don't grab the pediatric kind.

Actualt dentist here. Pharma-dude is righte. That is a aphtae minor/aphtous stomatittis. Hurts like hell,i know. There is some over the counter-gels, that make a gel-like barrier. Works ok. A topical anesthesia (5 prct lidocain) applied before eating may make eating more comfortable (small amount,on lesion only). You might want to use a toothpaste without sds (google it)
Best regards

what i use to get rid of them is 25% acetic acid (vinegar). just put it with a Q-Tip on. Burns like hell but it helps.

>>11The human body in general just shits me off.
Pity, because the human body is actually pretty neat.
>>12Yeah will do, and I imagine there'd be an adult version.
>>13Thanks Dr anon, free medical advice from a prof is always nice. Do you know if they're just gonna keep popping up every now and then because they can, or if I change my diet/stress less will they stay away for good?

>>1Put salt on it. Lick tip of finger, put in salt packet, push straight into it. Hurts like fuck but will help heal it.

Thanks /lounge/rs for your advice.
I'm obviously not gonna to try everything you've all suggested at once because my mouth would probably explode, but I'll give most of them a shot over time.

>>15The etiology is quite unclair. Kids has them more often then grownups, so they decrease when you get older. Stress is postulated as an important factor, some sources claims this is an autoimmune occurence. The only evidencebased tip is to use a t.paste without SDS.
Nice premolars btw. And no attrition on lower incisors. Good for u,man !

>>1Cheapest solution is buy a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and rinse your mouth four times a day with 1/2 tablespoon hp mixed with 2 tablespoons water. It'll foam up in your mouth, kill off germs, dry your mouth out a bit and promote healing. especially do it before bed.

>>18Thanks man, I'll keep all that in mind (:
And yeah, I've always tried to take care of my teeth, when I was growing up like 1/4 of my family had shit teeth and it terrified me. So thanks!

Medfag here. Take 200 mg Ibuprofene every three hours to ease inflammation and pain. However this will barely ease the acute pain that you experience when you eat something salty or acidic. There is no verified way to reduce the healing time, sorry.
Also
>>4 is bullshit. The acidity of the saliva has nothing to do with ulcer formation.
26 Name: Anonymous : 2014-11-17 15:11
>>25Addition: However, there is quite strong evidence supporting the tip regarding the SDS in toothpaste.

>>24Stop scaring me. Everyone else has said a variation of ulcer, why is it suddenly now skin cancer? And it doesn't even look like it, it looks more like the variation of ulcer Dr anon was speaking of.
Not calling you a bullshitter, just asking why it looks like it or whatever

>>27Medfag here again. It is an aphthous ulcer, don't worry. The guy was just bullshitting you.
Cannot recommend any specific toothpaste brand though. Most toothpastes without SDS are allright to use. Just be sure to get a toothpaste with flouride in it (inb4 tinfoil hats).

And glad we've confirmed I don't have fucking skin cancer. That would suck to get at 20.
