how do i go about connecting a notebook hard drive to a desktop pc?

google 2.5inch to USB. Amazon has some adapters for less than 10 bucks.

just use a sata cable and hook it to the motherboard. Power should already be in there.

You have to get the apropriate connector/adaptor. After you got it, you carefully put a mild/strong magnet at the center of the hard drive dist, this in order to prevent damage from moving parts when you are working with it. You unplug the connector, plug it into your PC, remove the magnet and turn it on as you would normally. Hope this helps.

those should connect to a standard sata cable, i don't see where is the problem, maybe if you posted yours here? :P

Windows or Linux will discover the drive. Linux will read its contents and can bypass certain admin blocks that WIndows cant. I would load a linux OS onto a flash drive and boot via usb, then hook up the hard drive and pull whatever you need off onto the linux platform, so much easier than winblows.

treat it like any standard internal 3.5" drive. or you can put it into an external inclosure and connect via usb. newegg has plenty of those.
