3rd party monitoing companies

Hey, not tech literate here but consider the following.
Torrents are currently being monitored in ever increasing numbers by 3rd party companies hired by various copyright owners. These companies then copy IPs and inform the ISPS and then ISPS send warning to the user.
Why even bother with the 3rd party company? Is it possible for isps to just monitor everything a user does instead of involving a 3rd party company?
Also if that shit happens how in the fuck do you protect yourself from that? A tor, vpn, or some other kind of proxy wouldn't be able to stop your on dear old friendly Comcast from seeing what your doing would it? And if that's true then why the fuck is the NSA jumping through all these hoops to monitor citizens when it would be easier for ISPS to do it.

Not an expert but the little in know is, isp's don't want to do it, and vpn does hide your browsing from your isp.

ISPs aren't governments or media producers, they're Internet Service Providers. All they(should) care about is providing internet to people for a fee and that's mostly what they do and are interested in doing.
Movie people and musicians are not tech savvy, they need a third party to gather IPs and forwarding said IPs through to your ISP which then becomes judicially called out and has to inform you that your illegalities aren't appreciated but your customership is.
NSA is like... Secret mafuckas representin the American empire, no scruples. These people kill people to get their international political will and keep their edge on the techological frontlines.
TL;DR
Both conflicting and mutual interests, various roles to play in accordance to stuffs and a lot of manpower.

>>1They can and some do, usually for advertising reasons. There is the legal way, known as lawful intercept, which copies all packets and sends them to a server for analyzing. The other method is inline capture like fiber taps. I work for a service provider as a network engineer, we have inline taps for all traffic to do analyzing for anomalies and such and can wireshark it to look at the packets if need be, but we don't actively look for anything, that is just for quality and problem checking.
>>4Yes, but it is end to end encrypted, which means anything they sniff is encrypted.
