They're still making vinyl LP's, so not really that surprising.

But Vinyl...and now cassette tapes (not 8 track)have made a comeback as niche products. Saw a story about a some guy in Austin or Dallas(I forget) whos making good money with a factory he just opened making them.

Far as I'm concerned, vinyl still rules the Kingdom of Audio.

Nashville still keeps some in limited production.

I didn't think they even made it into this century.

I wonder if the still make the 5'' floppy disks?...[checks bing]...Wow, they do!

Betamax was the shit in the 80's.

Up until a few years ago betamax was the preferred video format of professional broadcasting agencies including almost all television stations because the tapes provided high quality picture and sound were easy to store and could easily be copied.

It was only after DVD's became popular and the technology became inexpensive enough to be affordable to even the poorest networks that use of the betamax format started waning in the television industry.

I assume the reason they still produced them for years is there was still a market for legacy video production in small TV markets and straggler hobbyists.

Our family totally backed the wrong horse in the early eighties - we had 3 (count 'em, three!) Betamax video recorders. Couldn't share films with anyone because all the fuckers had their shitty, massive VHS cassettes.

Like everyone else, I was also staggered to learn they're only now stopping production.

Modern rubbish never lasts. I stick with wax cylinders.
