Your thoughts would be appreciated. I bought a new HP Pavilion just not sure what to run for Windows and undecided about virus/spy ware?

at this point... Windows 7 is the safer choice if you don't want any potential issues. only issue with Windows 7 is supposedly Microsoft is dumping support of it in the year 2020. so in the long run... Windows 10 will likely be better than Windows 7 but currently i just don't like the forced updates etc (like Windows Updates and even fricking driver updates which is just stupid for Microsoft to force those on people) as Windows 10 seems to offer a bit less control over your PC.

but with that said... i plan on taking advantage of the free Windows 10 upgrade offer (since i got Windows 7 x64 Professional that means i can get Windows 10 x64 Pro to) before it's over which means as long as i upgrade before the end of July of 2016 i can get it for free.

but it sounds like it's still a bit risky upgrading at the moment as i am waiting for em to work out the kinks before i take the plunge which probably means ill attempt the upgrade process sometime next year. even when i do upgrade i am going to image my drive so if anything goes to crap i can just put Windows 7 back to the way it is at the moment.

I upgraded to Win 10 from 8.1 for my laptop and it was a great decision. Much easier to navigate, not as touch screen-centric.

My only gripe is when I hook-up my mobile phone, I can't get it to play my music apps or control it through my laptop anymore, but that's just a minor grievance.

Yeah, Windows 8 sucks (largely because of it's interface) so i would try Windows 10 in a heartbeat over that.

but Windows 7 on the other hand is actually good for regular PC/Laptop users. those on Windows 7 might want to be cautious on upgrading, atleast for a while, since Windows 7 'just works'.

Pretty much all modern OS/hardware are very good against virus (they tend to really split data and executable code correctly, tell you when something is changing the system, offer sandboxes environment, hacker need to exploit user error directly (or spent the time to hack the server with an high amount and valuable content) more and more.

All windows 6.x (vista-7-8-10) are mostly similar, if your try windows 10 (from a windows 7 or 8) you have I think one month that you can go back.

Didn't saw any issue with windows 10 yet.
