People that work or have experience in sound mixing, I need your help quick!
I've played music for a long time, but for the first time ever I've actually mixed a song of my own (Garage Band though)
Now the problem is, I'm going into a studio later to record the vocals, and talk with the guy that's going to mix the song (fix audio levels and add echoes and all that which I can't pronounce in English) And he told me to bring the files on a USB so he could do all the mixing tomorrow. Now, I don't know if I should just put the song as an MP3 or something on the USB, or add the separate instrument tracks somehow? I'm payingroughly 400$ for this, so I'd like not to fuck it up

You send him the stems, you can't mix an individual track when the whole song is a mp3

There should be a folder of the garageband song, just drag and drop that onto you usb

No.. What you do is the following:

Group all channels together, that are similar (stems)

For instance.. Percussions in one group, Guitars in another, Drums in another and so on..
Export all the stems as wavs in 44.1khz and 24bit...
24 bit is necessary for analog gear to work with it..

You can export your track as a whole as a seperate Mp3, so the engineer can hear what you prefer..

but chances are that you have to change stuff in the mix to make the vocals fit and you can't do it on a whole mix, it will sound shitty!!!

You export it as mp3, you do not deserve to set foot in that studio. And for the love of fuck I hope you recorded in bit depths and sample rates higher than 16/44.1. Oh and use volume compression sparingly. It won't sound that great if everything has been made to go as loud as possible.

Why the fuck would you give him stems instead of all the individual tracks? What if you want to bump the snare up .5 dB? You're fucked is what. Provide your guy with the files at the bit depth and sample rate they were recorded at to avoid any unnecessary sample rate conversion.

Don't worry about doing too much compression or too much of this or that. Use your ears. If it sounds good with 3-6 dB of compression do that. If it sounds good smashed to fuck, like 10-20 db or more of compression, go for it. Your audience isn't gonna care about the numbers behind the mix.
