"Reverse racism" and math for dumbasses

Blacks are about 15 percent of the population and 15 percent of the Hollywood actors. If you assume black actors and white actors are EQUALLY talented , you would EXPECT that they would have 3 out of 20 Oscar acting nominations on AVERAGE every year. There are 5 blacks nominated this year. There is about a 17 percent chance of that happening by pure coincidence (you can MATHEMATICALLY calculate it). The last two years there were 40 nominations and 0 were blacks. The probability that THAT was a coincidence is .0000000000000000000000000000000000166 percent. It's a little bit better than flipping a coin forty times and getting heads EVERY SINGLE TIME.

This year could easily be a total coincidence that has nothing to do with political correctness or "reverse racism" or the reaction to the "whining" from last year. There is NO WAY the last two years were a coincidence though . You have to either assume 1. there is racial bias even in liberal Hollywood, or 2. whites are vastly better actors. Obviously, A LOT of people believe #2, which is REALLY why they're whining or trolling or whatever they're doing. The point is blacks had every right to complain last year, and you're just being stupid now to blather about "reverse racism".

BTW, this is math for dumbasses, not because I could possibly explain it to dumbasses (google "binomial probability" if you're interested and not a dumbass), but because I'm just TELLING all you dumbasses this (you're welcome). I'm simply smarter than you are, which is why you're paying for an $8 billion wall across the Mexican border because you think it will restore good-paying working-class jobs in the American Rust Belt. . .

A lot of actor for the Oscar type of movie come Australia and the UK (also Canada, France, Spain and some other place) where black actor are not that common. I'm not sure that 15% is accurate, it could about 13% of the US population and 8% of the world actors doing oscar type movies.

Your maths is incorrect.

Probability is tricky, which is why I won't act like you did towards other people and call you a moron for getting it wrong, but I can't help wonder how on earth you managed to get so many extra zeros.

With the "pure chance and merely proportional to the population" assumption (and making the simplifying assumption that we're sticking to the United States), the chance that any one arbitrarily chosen actor is non-black is - on your figures, which I haven't checked (and do you ahev a source?) - 85%.

The chance that any arbitrarily chosen set of 40 people (say, the nominated actors for the past two years) is all non-black therefore comes to 85% to the power of 40 - or 0.15%. You're about ten decillion times out, and ten decillion is a number so large I hadn't hitherto managed to find a use for it.

But behind this there's a subtler fallacy. 0.15% is the chance that any two particular years (chosen at the turn of the century and placed in a sealed envelope, for instance) will have all non-black nominees. But that's not the question we ought to be interested in. What ought to interest us is, what are the odds this will happen sometime?

The odds of all 20 nominees being non-black in a single year is a bit under 4% (or 3.88%). Call this probability n, and the odds we'll get at least one such year in, say, the period from 1990 to the present is:

100%-((100% - n) to the power of 27)

This comes to 66%. The odds of at least two such years is, I believe (I'm not great on probability myself and my head is starting to hurt) the result of the same above formula with 26 substituted, multiplied by 66% - or 42%. Hardly worth betting heavily against.

And of course, the real question we need to ask is: Given the racial grievance industry is working night and day to find things in the Oscars to complain about, what is the probability that chance alone will allow them to find something, somewhere? Here calculation becomes very tricky indeed, but I would venture the answer is approximately 100%.
