My old Linksys can't handle everything in the house. I'm thinking of doing one of the following. Keep in mind that my house is very long with an apartment in it on one side (that shares our Wi-Fi).

1) Spend uber-bucks on a one of these new routers with half a dozen antenna's that supposedly have long range and swap it in for the old router.

2) Spend uber-bucks for a mesh network system like Orbi, EERO or the new Google Wi-Fi.

3) Spend $100 bucks for a decent new router, put it in my side of the house so everything I care about is within it's range, and put the old router in the apartment side of the house in bridge mode connected by a long Ethernet cable.

I'm leaning towards 3 even though that means having to set up two SSID's because I'm cheap.

Choice III seems like the most practical.

I put a lot of thought into my last router. I ended up going with a 2 1/4 horsepower Bosch.
