Dear Netflix

1 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-10 04:12
Please, you have picked up an exploding hot potato of steaming manure in 'Dear White People', as a series? Stop it.

Race relations are at their worst in quite some time, and this is just going to increase the stupidity. More division. Take a page from the huge backlash MTV recently got from their 'New Years Resolution' that got it taken down...

If you go down this road Netflix, after we send you bad user notes and ratings for the show (and it will tank), and continually push this stuff through a long running series, and more - I will cancel my membership.

You have finally made a business decision that has potential to lose you a lot of customers; something I do not think you have ever done. And especially backing something so stupid, so wrong, so discriminatory and racist (while pretending to be antiracist) is just insane.

Are people seriously upset over Dear White People?

Fuck me, that came out nearly THREE years ago! A tad late to get uppity, ain't it?
3 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-10 05:52
Never saw it. Not upset at all, just doesn't strike me as something I'd be interested in.

All white people are racist and unaware of their own racism.

Reaction to Netflix's "Dear White People"

As some of you may know Netflix recently release the trailer for one of their new TV series called "Dear White People"(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LzggK5DRBA)

Naturally, it has received a backlash. While criticism is fine, the anti-sjw crowd has taken yet another step into becoming what they hate by organizing a boycott of Netflix. I wonder if any of them see the irony in that?

Honestly, I was more upset at Netflix for dropping Columbo. Why can't people today just ignore it and move on?

Honestly, I was more upset at Netflix for dropping Columbo.

The dirty bastards dropped "The Munsters" too. There is no justice in the world

This whole thing is comical as hell. People are canceling Netflix over some dumb show. Newsflash just because they added a show does not mean you have to watch it. But go on and become crybabies just like the ones you mock.

Its the principle of the matter..Would it be okay to do a Dear Black people? If your answer is no. Then you know why. Time to stop with the double standards. America is getting sick of it.

Would it be okay to do a Dear Black people?

Sure why not? It's just a tv show ffs.
10 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-10 07:11
I just cancelled Netflix !!!!

I am done with them
11 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-10 07:16
It's Netflix. You don't have to watch it. I ignore 90%+ of Netflix. I use it to watch the shows and movies I like, whenever I want.

Jimmy G!
13 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-10 12:10
Yes, it would be okay to do a Dear Black People show.
14 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-10 16:23
I agree with the poster about the show but I like Netflix. You are right - just don't watch what you don't like.

Love some Longmire, Spartacus, and I've watched a ton of really good series that I wouldn't have even known about without Netflix like The Fall, Paranoid, The Last Kingdom and Broadchurch

Besides....free speech and all that.
15 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-10 19:54
omg just don't watch it then.

Netflix is awesome.
16 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-10 21:09
It is a Netflix Original Series... Based on the movie of course.

'Just do not watch it'?

If you give money to someone who is not just actively selling various videos and tv shows, but actually making a specific product on the market based on values you disagree with - you want people to just keep giving them money? "Oh no, keep buying it, and only see the thing you want to spend your money on, not the thing your money is going to"...

Bravo, for the stupidity awards.

Personally though, I just said they were on notice from me, not that I cancelled them. I want to stick around just to give it a very, very low rating :) and a review. Enough people who poke holes in certain arguments, and suddenly on the front page of Netflix you can find voices of reason, and rebuttals.

But if they keep down this road (like I said), I might think otherwise...
17 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-10 23:26
Lmao! So much boycotting. So much sensitivity.

Poor snowflakes.
18 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-11 01:12
You don't know a damn thing about 'sensitivity', do you? I am not harmed. However, I am voicing my opinion, and am willing to voice it with my wallet; and YOU are the one calling me a snowflake for doing so? Doesn't that kind of work against you here, for simply being outraged by people who are voicing their opinion in such a peaceful dialogue? Heck, not even a heated one.

So, go away snowflake... :)
19 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-11 04:14
I'm not outraged, I'm actually amused.

I see a lot of things I don't like on a daily basis. On the street... in stores, coffee shops... on tv.. on the internet..everywhere. I don't run around crying like a little bitch, hiding my eyes and canceling everything associated with ideas I find offensive. That's just ridiculous.

...And I'm not a complete pussy.

"Oh no, the local bookstore is selling books about Trump! I'm offended! Boycott time!!"
20 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-11 07:53
It's interesting how you view division and race relations: the way to fix things is to be completely silent about them. Your approach is basically "sweep everything under the rug, it'll fix things."

Has that ever worked?

And why are you bashing a tv show's content that you haven't seen?

The original movie was funny and it actually balanced race issues in a smart, balanced way. The black main character herself had issues with dating a white guy (a conflict she had to resolve) and it showed ethnicities, other than white, harboring racist prejudices (like the Asian guy wanting a black guy just because he's black).

It also showed how white, racist college frat boys can do anything they want, because they don't need to fear for repercussions. Until they actually do.
21 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-11 10:34
So Netflix has a show you don't like and so you cancel your subscription?

You do understand this makes you a moron.
22 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-11 13:13
>>21
If he does not agree with the COMPANY'S decision then how does it make him a moron to boycott the COMPANY?
23 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-11 16:27
A moron thinks the whole company/concept is bad because they don't like 1 show out of thousands and also thinks their one subscription out of many millions makes any difference to Netflix.

A non-moron Just doesn't watch that 1 show they don't like.
24 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-11 17:19
So if netflix ran a series that promoted the genocide of all non white people, and another series glorifying people involved in child trafficking, you'd just skip over those and not cancel and use a different streaming service?
25 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-11 20:44
genocide of all non white people, and another series glorifying people involved in child trafficking

Obviously glofying horrors doesn't happen on TV...I mean its not like every show doesn't have guns and death. Watch Law and Order SVU and you get horrific stuff, does just displaying the evil that men do glorify it?

you'd just skip over those and not cancel and use a different streaming service?

yes exactly.

If those shows were not to my taste then I wouldn't watch them. I don't censor stuff. If its cleared for the public to watch then why would I have an issue with it? There have been films and shows about genocides and child trafficking, its good for people to learn such horrors exist in the world.

You really so sensitive you don't even want these topics available as a choice to you? And who decides what is OK? Maybe we should just watch Gilmore girls on repeat and pretend the world is a lovely place.
26 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-11 22:01
Cancelling your subscription isn't "censoring" anything.

You literally said if a show wasn't to your taste you wouldn't watch them....which is exactly what these people cancelling Netflix of DWP are doing. They're not watching it.

It's still there for anyone who does.

So go look up what "censorship" means and look into the concept of "freedom of choice" and then get back to us because your argument is ignorant and dumb.
27 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 03:14
Why stop at cancelling a subscription? To be safe they should sell their TV...what if they accidentally see a bit of something that upsets them?

My argument that not watching a show you think you wont like is dumb?

WOW you are a moron.
28 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 05:08
You sure seem to be upset by people spending their money how they want. You must have a lot of Netflix stock right? You need a shoulder to cry on to get you through this dark time? Maybe someone to just listen? I'm here for you buddy. I know how stressful someone cancelling their Netflix subscription must be for you.

It is outrageous that when Netflix did something they didnt agree with some subscribers decided to no longer do business with that company. I mean...the nerve of them not giving Netflix their hard earned money right? It's just not right. Heck, it's downright un-American!

I can definitely see how not buying Netflix would upset someone such as yourself who doesn't know the difference between "censoring" and simply not buying a product though but I think maybe with a little luck and some help from God you'll pull through!
29 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 07:22
1) I support Netflix putting on the show
2) I support you and anyone else who doesnt want to give them anymore money

I will go out on a limb and presume you didnt watch the movie. But there is probably enough written about it that most people these days feel they dont need to actually see something in order to have an opinion.

That's fine. You are saying this show will hurt race relations. Why? Because it portrays some white people as possibly being racist by putting on a black face party, and black people reacting to the possible racism?

What specifically do you think the effect of this show is going to have? Since you and a lot of other white people wont watch it, it certainly wont effect your opinion of black people.

Are blacks going to not like me because of this show? Do you think black people will confuse this show with reality?

What do you think of this?

Professor Bodkin: ...Might I also remind you that I read your entire fifteen-page unsolicited treatise on why the Gremlins is actually about suburban white fear of black culture.

Sam White: The Gremlins are loud, talk in slang, are addicted to fried chicken and freak out when you get their hair wet.

Or this?

Sam White: Dear white people, the minimum requirement of black friends needed to not seem racist has just been raised to two. Sorry, but your weed man, Tyrone, does not count.

Does that hurt you? Does that mean race relations are hurt?

BTW - as a white man, I find both of those quotes very funny. Seems to me they are poking fun at stereotypes on both sides.

And I am not inclined to turn the channel.

BTW - as a white man, I find both of those quotes very funny. Seems to me they are poking fun at stereotypes on both sides.

Is that what this show is about? Sounds more like Hollywood wagging their finger at me because I was born white. Either way, I'm not watching it OR canceling my Netflix subscription.
31 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 11:04
It's about being black in an ivy league university where race relations are brought to the surface because some white people threw a black face party

But that's the backdrop. The show is mainly about the lead character, black female named Sam, who has a radio show. They make fun of all kinds of stereotypes, they bash Tyler Perry movies and lame reality shows

I found much more to agree with than disagree with.

And I will go ahead and assume that most of the people who refuse to watch or cancel their subscription never saw the movie, and are relying on others to give them an opinion.

Calling out the main character:

Your favorite director is Bergman. But you tell everyone it's Spike Lee. You love bebop but you've got a thing for Taylor Swift. And I know because my Mac picks up your Mac's library.

You're more Banksy than Barack. But you've been co-opted as some sort of revolutionary leader or something. But really, you're an anarchist. A sh!t-starter.

Sam White: You're trying to frighten me, but I think you're the one who's scared.

President Fletcher: And I think you long for days when blacks were hanging from trees and denied actual rights that way you'd have something to actually fight against.

Lionel Higgins: I listen to Mumford and Sons and watch Robert Altman movies . Do you really think I'm black enough for the Union?

Smoothe: Yo! I *love* Robert Altman! Motherfncker goes *in*!

Hopefully no one was hurt by reading these horribly anti white racist quotes from the movie

I don't like a lot of things on TV. My solution?

I DON'T WATCH IT!

And for a pay-to-view service? Either DON'T WATCH or CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP!

Solved!

Dear Netflix, All Your Base Are Belong To Us.
34 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 16:09
Was that the original meme? (Before trends were called memes?)
35 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 17:18
Here's a little info on the original:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_your_base_are_belong_to_us
36 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 18:43
So have you told them or did you just post this here? Because they probably don't read this board.
37 Name: RedCream : 2017-02-12 19:09
If race relations are at their "worst," it's because years of racist abuse, stereotyping, and hate hate from white folks have made it that way.
38 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 20:45
Maybe so but we elected a black president and then gave him 4 more years...

That doesn't happen without a LARGE % of the white population voting him in.
39 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 21:07
I've heard McCain got a little under 60% of the White vote and that Romney got right at 60% of the White vote. So, a huge fraction of the White vote went to someone of another race. Meanwhile, well over 95% of the black vote went to Obama.

Hmm????

But it is Whites that are soooooooooooooo raysis.
40 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-12 23:19
Yeah, that's telling them!
41 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-13 04:11
Picking at the scab of racial tensions does not allow it to heal and for us to progress beyond race. Guess which party that benefits? The one which is always playing the Identity Politics card and which depends on a monolithic black vote to cling to power.

Today NPR is "Anti-Trump Radio," but just before that it was "Race Radio." The agenda is as plain as day: Stir up racial unrest and conflict for the benefit of the Democratic Party.
42 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-13 07:43
That would be like me axing my cable provider's service because they aired something I deemed offensive. It just doesn't make any sense.

For example, Netflix offers that piss-poor Ghostbusters (2016) reboot. I absolutely loathe and despise it, but I'm not about to cancel my subscription over it.

The good outweighs the bad when it comes to T.V. shows off of their site. I'd miss Stranger Things (2016) and House of Cards (2013) something awful because of one lousy decision.

They'll take the hint if nobody views it. That's the best you can hope for.
43 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-13 09:23
Netflix is already on notice for the amount of times I see it come out of my account after not really using it that month. More movies, classics, 80's, 90's films, good ones. Not more original programming.
44 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-13 11:44
What a funny thread.

All these people saying, if you don't like it, don't watch it - you can guarantee they'd be making a terrible fuss if Netflix ran a show called Great Moments in the History of the Klan.
45 Name: Anonymous : 2017-02-13 12:27
>>44

Are you kidding? If they did anything like that it'd be the lead story on every MSM "news" program, and the SJW "torch and pitchfork" crowd would descend on Netflix's headquarters like locusts. And if Barry were still in office, his DOJ and FCC would be investigating it and he would have signed an Executive Order to stop the Post Office from delivering disks to subscribers who still use that.
