Did you ever hear of Patty Hearst? She was the heir to the Hearst publishing fortune who was kidnapped in 1974 by the Symbionese Liberation Army. She was locked in a closet and tortured and brainwashed into joining the SLA while being held hostage. She ended up participating in a bank robbery that landed her a 7 year prison sentence (her Stockholm Syndrome defense didn't work). But Bill Clinton commuted her sentence later.
