Why the heck is McDonald's paying its employees $9.25/hr?

1 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 09:13
Why the heck is McDonald's paying its employees $9.25/hr? WTF kind of world are we living where flipping burgers warrants that sort of pay? This is an example of the greedy lower-class doing whatever they can to undermine the foundation of our society. I made my protest known to the manager and told them I will not be eating there anymore. I hope others do the same, because if we don't take a stand now then we'll end up seeing inflation like never before. Self-imposed minimum wages increases are just as bad as government imposed minimum wage increases.

Maybe we should consider maximum wage laws for certain lower level jobs in order to prevent misguided wage increases from destroying our economy.

This jobs were never meant ad careers. Back then people strived for success to earn more snd become valuable. Now they just sit on their fat ass and stare at a phone.

When?
The 60s?

Dude, there have ALWAYS been careers in fast food.

In 1979 the Jack in the Box I worked at had a cashier married to the assistant store manager. They worked different shifts so one could be home with the kids & they didn't need daycare.

There are still careers to be had in the fast food industry. The people demanding $15 an hour to flip burgers have no interest in becoming managers. They want to do the least amount of work possible so they can still hang out with their loser buddies.

The $15/hr is even more ridiculous and there is no way it will happen. I'm hoping President Trump will get rid of the minimum wage and make it illegal for states to make their own minimum wage laws. Which is a step in the right direction, but we have a long ways to go before wages are where they should be. There is no reason for McDonald's to be paying their employee's $9.25/hr in a state that has a $7.25/hr minimum wage. What is going on here? Why have our people become so entitled that they have no shame in accepting that amount of money just for flipping burgers and cooking fries?

We need a shift in attitude badly.

Because that's how the hierarchy works - there are more and more people the higher up that you get. It's an inverted pyramid, where it's a lot of managers managing very few lower staff.

Aww, come on. Think of it as an investment in your future enjoyment of non-spat-in hamburgers.
8 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 13:02
How is it an investment in my future employment? These people are the ones who drive inflation. Their greed will cause our economy to collapse. Every time they get a raise it means they have raise prices on their products. I am not just talking about fast food, but any sort of retail or lower level manufacturing job. Their "gains" come at the expense of those us with real jobs and real lives. Which will eventually come back and hurt those "people" when they lose their jobs because their greed of constantly demanding more collapses our entire system

Perhaps you need to put your glasses on...?

I have no idea what any of that means. But I do know that there is no reason for any burger flipper to be making more than $4/hr. Even that might be too high in some areas. Either way, they shouldn't be making $7.25/hr, $9.25/hr, and for sure not $15/hr. These are not jobs that are meant to support people.

Well, the market disagrees with you. I'm sorry you don't enjoy living in a capitalist society.
12 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 13:43
I don't agree with socialism that says everyone needs to earn the same wage. Sorry. Nice try, though.
13 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 13:53
Duly noted. However, we weren't discussing socialism. We were talking about your aversion to a free market economy.
14 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 14:03
No, I am talking about my aversion to greedy socialists trying to undermine our capitalist free market system. I'm sure some of it is misguided well intention, but a lot of it is an active plot against capitalism. Whatever. Most Americans agree with me and they too are disgusted by these low-skill laborers demanding more and more.

Do you only make $9.25 an hour? That sucks bro, but keep working hard and you will get a raise eventually.
16 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 14:24
No. I do not make $9.25/hr. What are you talking about? I am talking about fast workers and I haven't worked in fast food since I was in high school. I am saying that the rate we're going these fast food workers will soon be making the same wage as doctors and lawyers. Is that really the world you want?

Can I get a world where the fast food workers get paid MORE than the lawyers?

It was called the Soviet Union and look how well that turned out.

I got myself a hot mail-order bride out of that deal, so it worked out well for me.

President Trump, is that you? I am honored.

Yeah, it's me. My advisors told me to stop using Twitter, so I switched over to the 4ct Politics board to share my thoughts.

The minimum wage should be high enough to maintain a normal standard of living.

The purpose of having a minimum wage is to prevent the exploitation of workers.
23 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 16:05
You're a moron. You say that people who can't afford health care should die, yet you want to take away their money to provide for themselves?

You suck.

I am not against people working to earn their way. If it wasn't for the labor laws that require employers pay their employees time and a half for work over 40 hours, then those people would be able to work many more hours to pay their own way (including their own healthcare) However, since the ridiculous concept of "overtime" comes into play, that means these same people have to work at multiple different employers to get those hours. So liberal policies are just making it harder on the working class once again.

I live in Michigan-- and not near major metropolitan areas like Detroit or Grand Rapids --and our local McDonald's was advertising $9.25/hr starting wages for months, and has now raised them to $9.75/hr.

The store owner just can't find the workers.

So his starting wages just keep going up.

Free market at work.

Sincerely,

Todd

That is BS about not being able to find workers. Even if that is the case, how is raising the wage going to help him fill the positions? How about instead he pay his current employees less so that they need to work more hours to earn the same amount? Common sense seems to be lacking these days.

Your trolling is starting to unravel...
28 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 18:27
teeeheee.

I figure people would know by now that if I say something totally ridiculous it's likely a "troll" or at least some sort of sarcasm.

McDonald's is meant to be a summer job / first job; I have no problem with people making a little more money but it's supposed to be an early job, not a career.

Awesome.
31 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 19:48
$9.25 an hour? Man, I'm in the wrong business. I don't even make minimum wage. Perhaps I should give up raising cattle and just go cook the end product.
32 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 20:12
But then you wouldn't get to shoot coyotes that are trying to eat the calves.
33 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 20:44
Coyotes typically don't try to eat baby calves as the cow herd is pretty protective of its young.

Coyotes are more of a threat to lambs and chickens.
34 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 21:55
It's a way to eat when the "real job" doesn't work out.
35 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 22:18
Sounds good as long as the price on the menu reflects employee pay changes. If they pay their staff less then they should be able to lower their prices.
36 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 22:49
I don't agree with a $15 minimum wage, because yeah, it does kinda incourage laziness and trying to earn money doing as less amount of work as you can, but people still have to make a living somehow before they get to an actual career, and doing for less than $4 is not going to work. But even then, I've seen older people in their 40s-50s working there. You don't think they're entitled to $10 an hour?
Seriously, what is wrong with you? You don't want your kid cured of cancer, you don't want people to be able to make a living and those who have a low income basically don't deserve to live and would be beneficial if they "died".
37 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-20 23:59
Well, when you put like that I guess I am a bit of an shit, But I more than makeup for it with my charming personality and dashing good looks.
38 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-21 00:29
You don't deserve to be a parent, dude. I feel bad for your kid
39 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-21 01:11
Okay, Anon, I have to ask: What do you do for a living and how much do you make an hour?
40 Name: SuperFratBoyExtreme : 2017-01-21 02:09
I post propaganda on the internet and I get paid $1.50 per response I receive.
41 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-21 02:44
And you don't think you deserve more than that?? I don't what kind of propaganda you do or for which company, but imagine it's this super popular company or something, you you really think you're getting your money's worth at only $1.50??
42 Name: SuperFratBoyExtreme : 2017-01-21 03:10
No. As I said, that is per response. On average I make $250 per post.
43 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-21 03:35
