Learn the difference between actually defending one's action, and looking for a motivation. Because stuff like "oh they did it because of Donald Trump/he's white/even white privilege" is all just looking at motivation. But no one is actively saying "Yeah, they had the right to do that, they shouldn't be charged."

Why do you even need to look for a motivation? It's hate crime and if the situation was reversed you wouldn't be looking for a motivation, the country would be burning from riots.

It doesn't matter if you need to or not. Again, find me someone who is actively saying they shouldn't be charged and they did nothing wrong.

A little empathy for those young people of color who have been living under an exploitative economic system with their opportunities limited by institutionalized racism might be in order.
