The Problem of Whiteness - is UW-Madison trolling?

I find it amusing how I'm often accused of trolling when I attempt to explain the role of toxic white culture in the origin and spread of humanity's greatest ills, such as war, slavery, economic exploitation, bigotry. Yet here we have a major University that is offering a course dedicated to exploring these very touchy but important topics.

I think the reactions to many of my posts are due to a lack of exposure to these ideas. Many posters have never been faced with certain historical facts, so they find it unsettling when they are brought up. They find it necessary to reject them immediately, usually by labeling me as a troll.

The article I linked mentions that the class is optional, which I think gives us a clue as to why this situations is so widespread. At the college level, many majors don't require students to get much exposure to courses that address these issues, such as ethnic studies, social sciences. Not only that, but they have a great amount of latitude in the courses they can choose to meet these small requirements. An engineering student can literally go their entire college career without taking a class exposing them to these concepts.

Perhaps its time to consider expanding the graduation requirements, so that students will get a deeper understanding of these issues. We should also move to making courses covering these topics required nationwide in public schools, as they are important enough that every young person should receive some exposure to them, not just college bound students.

Having students who might go on to fill important, influential positions in science, business, etc. who are little or no knowledge of of ideas that are essential to understanding history, politics, and world events is a dangerous situation. UW - Madison should be praised for trying to correct it, even if it brings some controversy their way.

If more of our schools took the approach that UW-Madison has, and then took it further, people would have the background to understand these concepts. They wouldn't seem so strange and new when they are brought up, and those who did wouldn't have to go through the ordeal of frequently being accused of "trolling".

You make it sound like those social ills only happened because of white culture when pretty much every culture has played a role in war, slavery, economic exploitation and bigotry... Do you talk about the role of other cultures played or it's just "white culture" (whatever that is)

I guess "latitude" is a word that libs hope will sound more evil than the word "choice."

An engineering student can literally go their entire college career without taking a class exposing them to these concepts.

Wow, a whole college career without ever having to listen to a minority or feminist professor tell them how evil they are before they go on to be the builders of the world? Tragic. I assume that a ____________ studies student can go her entire college career without ever taking a class exposing them to anything that has any real world application.

You don't think its a problem that when these realities, which many will find difficult to face, are brought up, peoples first reaction is to see them as outrageous, ridiculous, an attempt at trolling? How can any kind of real discussion be possible when there is such a lack of awareness?

There is plenty of racial awareness in this country, libs like you won't let us forget.

This whole white people need to check their privilege, and we need to understand other cultures in our country, and we need to apologize for being white.

Well kiss my white ass, I'm fucking fed up with this bullshit.

We don't need to learn about all our differences,
We need to realize we are ALL Americans.
Quit believing everything the MSM tells you,
Get your head out of your ass, open your eyes and let's just make this a better place for all of us.

Because there are plenty of other enemies in the world to deal with, but we're to busy fighting with each other to notice.

They are trying to compensate for their lunacy in electing Paul Ryan and Scott Walker.

Seriously, the cheeseheads are appropriately named. Anybody that has anything other than cheese in their head gets out of that shytehole.

"The Incredible Whiteness of Being". Fucking idiots.
