I've seen a few documentaries where they go into N. Korea, look I know the west is going to cherry pick the bad stuff but you have to read between the lines, like how the "latest" music they have over there is Michael Jackson cassette tapes or the banquet hall at the hotel full of food that looks like its been sitting out for days. The whole country is a fugazi. Also the fact the people aren't allowed to leave unless they work for the regime is a telling sign in itself.

A good rule of thumb I follow is I think any country whose cities have to have a giant statue or portrait of their "dear leader" or "president for life" on every street corner automatically qualifies for sh-thole status, even if the GDP is relatively decent.

North Korea has not hid its human rights violations from anyone. Their people were eating grass because the communist dictators were starving them. People are put in prison (and American prisons make them look like day camp) for the smallest infraction.

Every time someone talks about North Korea, it makes me so happy to be American. And before anyone says "well it will be like North Korea now because of Trump", you can fuck right off with your partisan butthurt. America is more than the president, and comments like that minimize what people in countries like that are actually living with.
