95% of people in prison... are men.

Female privilege?

Maybe because 95% of serious crimes are committed by men.

Excellent point.

So the reason there are more blacks than whites in prison is because...... ?

Partly because more crimes are committed by black people (when you're struggling due to poverty, lack of opportunities and systematic racism, you will be more likely to turn to criminal activity), but also partly because the legal system is dominated by white judges and white legal counsel, and juries that have been raised to believe negative stereotypes about black people. Not to mention good legal representation costs money, and it's generally not black people who have the money.

So... white privilege.

I still wonder how it is a female or white privilege of mine to have avoided incarceration when I've done nothing that would get me incarcerated.

I'm sure the privilege the OP refers to doesn't apply to law-abiding people like you and I.

I think that should be "you and me".

Just sayin.

You're right.

Thanks for focusing on the important things.

Yeah, I like to look at the narrow picture.

Females are using drugs more or less as frequently as men do, they're far more avid to conduct prostitution - and as far as I know both (drug and prostitution) top the arrest statistics, and yet: the male go to prosion, while females walk free.

Can you help me here?

I'd say it's more socioeconomic privilege which has an indirectly racist impact on many African-Americans and Latinos (but also affects poor whites), as well an element of white privilege in terms of negative stereotypes.
13 Name: Anonymous : 2016-12-26 01:18
And that socioeconomic privilege would also explain the low numbers of women in prison?
14 Name: Anonymous : 2016-12-26 01:24
I explained the relatively lower number of women in prison in my first post.

Socioeconomics doesn't really come into it when it comes to gender (yes, women are by and large less well-paid than men, and may be struggling financially, especially if they're single mothers, but by and large a woman has as much chance of coming from a privileged background as a man whereas race does play more of a role when it comes to one's likely background).
15 Name: Anonymous : 2016-12-26 01:29
But there should still be an equal number of disadvantaged women as there are men. Actually, there should be more if you buy into the 'wage-gap' lie. And yet women are incarcerated far less than men, when it should be equal.
16 Name: Anonymous : 2016-12-26 01:34
The wage-gap doesn't relate so much to actual poverty as it does to general gender injustice at all levels of the social hierarchy. For instance, I don't expect a female corporate executive to start holding up liquor stores anytime soon, no matter how unfair it is that her male colleague got a $1.5 million bonus whereas she only got a $1 million one.
17 Name: Anonymous : 2016-12-26 01:36
Then privilege as an explanation for the gender disparity doesn't work... but it does work for racial disparity?
18 Name: Anonymous : 2016-12-26 01:40
(when you're struggling due to poverty, lack of opportunities and systematic racism, you will be more likely to turn to criminal activity)

Then how come prison isn't filled with poor black women, children, and old people?

D'uh?

Moron alert.

Because youngish men, irrespective of race, are more likely than women, children or the elderly to commit violent crime. Men are conditioned to turn to aggression and violence as a strategy to resolving their problems, and testosterone levels and physical build also play a part in the way men and women's behaviour differs. Men are not only more mentally inclined to commit violent crime, they are more physically 'equipt' to commit violence.
