It's unfortunate but true. When you look at examples from Australia and Scotland, British people don't vote for independence.
They would rather stick with what they know,than take a risk and jump into the unknown.
Dave knows this. The vote is to crush UKIP and rebellious Tories.

Having lived there for many years I am aware of that.
I am of course referring to this vote to become a republic and remove the Queen as head of state.

it is a poor response as a referendum over your head of state is not the same as a vote over independence.

The vote was over the question of becoming a republic. How however, even with much less at stake, Australia voted no. People are afraid of change.
