While what happened in Cologne may be quite clear is not absolutely not easy to describe who , because in this special case it is very difficult to find unbiased news even in German language. I doubt that these criminals were mainly refugees of the last 6 months, it seems more probable to me that those criminals were north-african-rooted or arabian-rooted persons that live since several years in Germany (maybe as accepted refugee, maybe as illegal alien, maybe whatever) and know what is going on. It is not that difficult for them to put the blame on the newly arrived refugees. (That does not mean that all new refugees are choirboys)

Their grand fathers have been welcomed, yes, but not their sons and daughters. It took several generations for Germany to understand that the sons and daughters of the guest workers are its own sons and daughters and to accept that as a fact. Several generations Germany did NOT indicate to them the wish that they should integrate into the society. Several generations some Germans were quite happy that the sons and daughters of guest workers did NOT have the same starting conditions as "their own". (For example because they didn't have a "Brockhaus" at home or the money to pay private lessons etc. ) Several generations the "Ausländer" had to pay TV dues (slang "GEZ"/"Rundfunkgebühr" ... in nowadays "Haushaltsgebühr") though they didn't get any TV program for it or signs that they are an accepted part of the society (because they weren't part of panel that were measuring the advertizing effects)

and so on and so on ...

I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I WITNESSED THESE THINGS IN THE LAST 5 DECADES!
