America is undergoing significant upheaval now?

Of course it's hard to tell exactly when you are right in the middle of it but things do seem a bit unsettled on many fronts. For instance, the life expectancy of white working class males has decreased significantly in the last fifteen years -- something that is unheard of in the modern industrialized world.
Then there is the obvious political uproar going on, lots of pissed off people. Do you think historians will look back on this era, starting in 2001, as a period of discord and upheaval unseen since 1968?

It is like a compost heap that gets turned over every few days.

It depends on who wins, they'll be the ones writing the history.

nope... the world is in economic and social upheaval and America is reacting... but sooner than later it will become apparent that America stands strong.
I believe in the greatness of America and our strength comes from our diversity. As the Founding Fathers reminded us on our coins: E Pluribus Unum, which means: "Out of many, One".

Yeah. Lots of changes in demographics taking place. The economy is also changing which is why I believe the life expectancy of white working class males is on the decline. Without manufacturing and other low skill labor these guys won't have much of a chance to make a good living. It's depressing for them so they turn to drugs alcohol or they just stop taking care of themselves in general. I think we are slowly turning into a society with only rich and poor and nothing in between. Such a shame. When we finally see humanity making progress it goes right back to what it always was.
