The pilgrims were persecuted for their religious beliefs and had to flee their home.

They showed up on the shores with nothing, starving, cold and disoriented. And lo, they were welcomed by the Americans, given food and shelter, and allowed to start new lives.

No one expected those lives to end up here, in complete opposition to their own history. But oh well, so what.

Of course you'd make that comment, and it is tellingly illuminating. Since "you" lost control of yourselves and destroyed the country that welcomed you, you have a paranoid suspicion that everyone is like you and will do the same.
