Remember when the USA & UK were going to Bomb Syria

Was it last year when the UK Prime Minister wanted to bomb Syria but the government voted against him and said no. Remember when Obama had that red line and said Syria had crossed it and we all thought America was going to invade Syria but then he backed down.

What if the USA and UK had invaded Syria or bombed it into surrender? Would the Paris attacks still happen? Would the invasion create a wave of revenge attacks all over Europe and possibly America? Basically would we be in a better position today if we had invaded Syria back then? I remember in 2003 on the David Letterman show they made references to the idea of invading Syria right after Iraq.

What if we had invaded Syria as far back as 2003 would the situation today be better, worse, or just the same?

There was no problem until Bush #1 left a lot of military in Saudi Arabia after getting Kuwait back for the same people who beetled off to Egypt to party while Americans fought for Kuwait.

Politicians and diapers have to be changed often for the same reason

If that were the case, then why didn't we have MORE problems during the Cold War
period from 1945-1969, when we had even MORE bases there? I believe it started
when they realized they had us over an oil barrel, then the fall of the Shah gave the fundamentalists in exile a beach head. The Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan exasperated the problem, and when the Cold War ended, both Soviet
and US aligned individuals found out they no longer had to dance to their
"master's" tune, but at the same time saw funding disappear.
