If anything the world is getting harder and harder to live in. Rent is high, the cost of homes is high, high level jobs are not plentiful and working one or more permanent part time jobs is the new norm. Half the time we don't know what our tax dollars are spent on but it keeps going up, society has less and less to show for it each year, wealth and power are handed down to friends and family but it's our fault because we're lazy? Collusion and nepotism make it more difficult each passing year to break through to high level jobs, not everyone has the talent or personality to make it in the first place and the economy is such that when it dips, companies looking to save money will operate under last one in first one out. Maybe you just took that too literally. It could have been paid for by other means. Do you pay the garbage person directly when they pick up your garbage? No, you pay them through taxes. Because you didn't hand them money for their services doesn't mean it was free. That's just you being obtuse. I think you knew fine well what I meant. That's the point I made earlier with the mechanic fellow. Pay less taxes, sure. Suddenly he's paying money for that which he thought was free, but it was never free in the first place. It was covered out of sight and out of mind by taxes.

But you're half right. Taxes do make it harder for low income people to live. The alternative to taxes are directly paid fees for the same services, like a mechanic I know who bemoans service fees he has to pay for certain permits and business allowances. Hey, if the money doesn't come through taxes the government will find different ways to get it. They gotta make the money somehow.

Low/high taxes could make the difference between a 60 dollar speeding ticket and a 200 dollar speeding ticket. Lower taxes or not the city's still gotta make money, where else is it going to come from?

We have an aging, grumpy population who thinks college students want everything handed to them and don't care about nothing. That's easy. Faculty and administration salaries. Not all staff, but faculty, Deans, provosts, president, coaches, stuff like that. Look up the salary for a college president at a big or prestigious institution - some of them make millions.

then this is where the students should focus their outrage. Also colleges should not be used as minor league teams for the NFL and NBA. Baseball and Hockey both have thriving minor league systems time for the NFL and NBA to do the same.

It costs more because the colleges know that the government will pony up the student loans to pay for it.

I'm OK with them wiping out loan debt, because I have lots and don't give a shit who would be bothered by me not paying.

I think students should be paid $20/hour to attend school.

All past student loans should be forgiven.

Tax the top 10% at around 60%.

And minimum wage should be raised to at least $15/hour.

That will free up capital and reinvigorate the economy.

My guess is the economy will grow at around 18% per year under this.
