Do you think there'll ever be a biopic on Obama?

We got one for Bush the Younger, although admittedly there was a bit more material to draw from for him.

It's inevitable. Only question is, will it have a prolonged congressional voting scene, a la Lincoln.

Eventually.

INT. OBAMA FAMILY HOME, KENYA, 1961

Barack Obama Sr. walks impatiently about, nervous, while groans can be heard from the next room. As the groans turn into screams, his anxiety visibly increases. A nurse runs into the room, frantically looking around.

NURSE
Towels! We need towels!!

Finding the towels on an old, worn shelf, she runs back into the room. Barack Obama Sr. sits down, exhausted. More screams can be heard from the adjoining room, and then silence, finally broken by a SLAP, and then the high-pitched wails of a newborn baby. Obama Sr. stands, looking anxiously at the closed door of the room in which his son has been born.

ANN DUNHAM
Barack! Come and see what we've done. Come and see your son!

Obama Sr. opens the door, finding his wife in bed, disheveled and sweaty.

BARACK OBAMA Sr.
Oh, my love. He is marvelous. Maybe his ears are a little big, but yes, he is truly marvelous! We will name him Barack, after his father, and we will do everything in our power to educate him and raise him well, and then someday, Allah willing, he may end up to be President. Yes, President of Kenya!

not even mildly amusing

Drats!

Only about his rise to power. I don't think he's done anything interesting whilst in office to warrant someone making a film about his days in the White House.

It'll be called "Foreigner Takes Over Country, Laughs His Way to a lot of Money". Well, I suppose that could be the headline in one of their fake newspaper things.
13 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-10 18:01
Maybe or even a TV movie.
14 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-10 18:05
It's inevitable... Will Smith has stated he's interested in playing him because they have similar ears
15 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-10 18:09
Yes, a few years after he leaves office.
16 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-10 18:27
Of course there will be, and you can bet it won't be an Oliver Stone smear piece.
17 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-10 18:48
How was Oliver Stone's W. a smear piece? If anything, it made him look too sympathetic.
18 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-10 18:59
It was a smear piece from start to end. I don't know how it could be more obvious. Stone supposes a lot of fiction as well.

I'm no Bush supporter, I just thought it was a sleazy film.

Hah, that is cool. This discussion has been going on for years now. Some people think the film was too sympathetic . . . some think it was too harsh. Kind of like the bowls of ursuline porridge.
20 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-10 19:08
My point is the film is not made from an objective point of view, not that its necessarily too harsh. Therefore, its a worthless biopic.

As far as the film being too sympathetic to Bush, that's just absurd. I suppose there are people out there who think Bush has horns and a pitchfork...

bit more material

sellin' it a bit short, aintcha brah??
22 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-10 23:23
Yo.

A more specific question to those who say an Obama film is almost certain -- but at what budget, production values, and distribution?

Do you seriously think that an Obama biopic, when made, would be a big-budget, wide release Oliver Stone type production a la Nixon (1995)?

I highly doubt that. I would bet seriously against that.

I think it's inevitable at an Obama biopic will be made -- as in some HBO made-for-cable type deal like The Reagans or Begbie in Hitler: Rise of Evil (2003) but who really cares about that.

Amileft, brohizzles?
23 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-11 07:14
No. Instead there will be a soap opera called Obama Beach.
24 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-11 11:56
Well there hasn't been one for Clinton and his story was arguably more interesting than 'bama who, fine prez that he is, is kinda boring really.

Starring Daniel Day-Lewis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyU213nhrh0

No film is made from an objective point of view. It's an impossibility.

The movie was also not any kind of "smear piece" at all. Sounds as though you didn't actually watch it, but made your assessments based on the trailer.
27 Name: Anonymous : 2015-10-11 14:17
You're wrong, I've seen it at least 3 times.

True, no film can be truly be objective, but the filmmaker can at least attempt to be objective, Stone didn't even do that.

You're wrong - Stone was very objective and depicted that shit with far more respect than he deserved.
