HELSINKI: Finland Friday raised its estimate for the number of asylum-seekers expected to reach the country this year to about 50,000 from 30,000 previously, after a heightened influx in September.
Drawn by an existing Iraqi community in Finland and eased asylum criteria, thousands of Iraqi refugees arrived last month after a long journey through Central Europe and neighboring Sweden, crossing the border at Tornio near the Arctic Circle.
"A new railway connection from southern Sweden to Lulea (up north), due to open Saturday, may in the short term increase the number of asylum seekers coming to Finland," the interior ministry said in a statement.
It said its new forecast, when Finland's total population of 5.5 million is taken into account, resembles the numbers seeking asylum in Germany or Sweden, the two most favored destinations for migrants streaming into Europe.

I was at the pub a couple of nights ago discussing this with the bartender and all and got no objection from anyone, everyone agrees it's inevitable we should block the border with Sweden: the refugees have been invited to Sweden, nobody can claim they are persecuted there, they should stay there.
Will this happen is another question, the more they wait the more difficult it will become. But one thing's for sure, people are level headed and in agreement about this and not afraid to say it in public, so there's still hope (unlike in Sweden, that country is a lost case on all accounts).

There seems to be misrepresentation by the media, portraying the "refugees welcome!" crowd as the overwhelming majority. That's far from the case in Britain, and it's probably similarly limited in every other country.
