What happened to all this "populist" stuff? Perhaps now he'll be smacked around a bit since the man on the street can see he's nothing more than a Lafferite with old, tired, discredited ideas. Just more of the same. Trump's whole bag was to appear populist and different.

We're talking reducing taxes

1.on pass-through income to 15%,

2. the top marginal tax rate lowered to 25% (very close to what it was in the late 80's at 28%),

3. Capital gains tax cut to 23.8% (although I'm not sure if that will retain the two-tier system in place now)

4. Corporate tax lowered to a whopping 15%.

I'm very disappointed in this guy. Hopefully someone can come along and make some hay out of this 1980's style retro nonsense.

Upper income people still can't deduct too much on an overall percentage of taxable income as-is. Eliminating those won't make too much of a difference. Most of the good deductions were done away with in 1986 anyway.

Overtaxing productive people to fund unproductive government programs is not populist. As it stands, the US government spending makes up about 40% of GDP. What benefits are the poor people getting from that? Miserable food stamps and a K-12 education system that's more concerned with lowering test score requirements so they can get a bigger budget the next year instead of education the future generations of America.

The vast majority of these tax dollars go to bureaucracies, unaccountable contractors and various other financial black holes. Currently, both the Democrats and Republicans are fighting hard to keep the cash tax flow to these corrupt individuals so they can get the public sector unions and their close corporate buddies on board with every local and federal election campaign. They're doing this regardless of how much debt they're piling up on the backs of the American people.

To have a truly populist government, here's what must happen:

①　Government spending needs to be reduced 10-15% of GDP. Maybe 20% for states of emergency.

②　Business-strangling bureaucratic regulations need to be lifted so that businesses, both great and small, can grow and invest into less developed areas.

③ Taxes need to be flat across all income brackets and the tax code needs to be simplified, so businesses are not penalized for growing past a certain size and so that loopholes for tax evasion are patched.

④　There need to be tariffs on import goods to prevent the outsourcing of manufacturing to third world countries.

⑤　Jobs, not government food-stamp dependency, need to be prioritized in all programs aimed to uplift the poor.

⑥ Bailouts for any private sector entity that can't compete in the market need to be eliminated and competition promoted.
