If Britain would've been like "you know what fuck it" The war would've been over in a couple of months and it would only be continental.

Yes, Britain declared war on Germany in WW1. They did so because they feared Europe dominated by a single power and also felt that France/Russia were in a better position to help safeguard their colonial empire. As such they came to France's aid even though they were not attacked by Germany at the onset of war.

It didn't help that it took 3 years for each side to develop counters to the trenches that prevented large scale breakthroughs.

We learn how bad hitler was. We learn how he killed 6 millions. We just think about it different. You learn this part of germany and think "wow germans are fucked up".. We learn from history. Next time will be better.
