The nations in power over the world created this lie to keep people in fear so they could be more easily controlled. Prove me wrong.

Looking back, I think the Cold War was mostly for show. I doubt that nuclear weapons would have been seriously used by either USA or USSR and not only because of MAD. North Korea today might be another story, though, especially since they've not gone through the usual Khrushchev-esque reform phase.
