Sony is ruining MS's first-party game lineup.

This is why Scorpio exists.

Microsoft has created this wonderful portfolio of first party games, only to start cancelling them when they're not seen as financially viable. This is the Sony effect at work. Exclusives used to be the main factor of why people bought consoles, and now Sony turned that all on its ear due to people having the mindset that better resolution equalled a better version of the game.

That's done. The almighty exclusives like Halo and Gears and Forza are all MS has left to lean on now. They can't come out and take as many chances with riskier AAA titles until they can get the market back. So they can have enough consoles out there to justify new IPs. I hope MS can show off the true power of this console so there's no disputing the best place to play multiplats from this fall onwards.

MS doesn't want to be like Nintendo. Trying to prop up a console with a bunch of first-party titles that people won't buy. Now is more important than ever to push Scorpio to gamers.

Cool.

Playstation consoles are more powerful than Xbox consoles.

Game Over.

Remember all those fantastic unique IPs that Microsoft released during the second half of the 360 generation? You know, that time when they had the market dominance that youre talking about.

Mattrick leaned too hard on Kinect. Likely because they had the American gaming scene in a headlock so he took their lead here for granted. MS must, MUST come out with a console powerful enough and cheap enough to undercut both Sony and the PC market if they're going to get all the marbles back, so they can take risks and continue being the top games publisher.

Hardware has to take priority over the first-party lineup right now.

I mean, its not like theres been much of a first party line up from MS anyway.... Halo Froza and Gears is all you need right? Mostly because...its all you get.

If that weren't good enough for me, I wouldn't have bought the console. We had Ryze, Sunset Overdrive, Recore and Tomb Raider as a year exclusive as well, but Xbox buyer apathy is high because morale is low I guess. Getting everybody back on team Xbox with a powerful console is the way to jumpstart things again. I'm sure MS knows this.

We had Ryze, Sunset Overdrive, Recore

We had two mediocre games and a decent one! Behold our impressive line up of new IPs over the last 3 and a half years!

Well, if Scorpio takes off, and there's no reason it shouldn't, having more units out there will compel MS to make more third party exclusive deals. This is why Scorpio can't be like the Pro. It must fire on all cylinders coming out of the gate.

Well, if Scorpio takes off, and there's no reason it shouldn't, having more units out there will compel MS to make more third party exclusive deals.

If Scorpio takes off it will have to sell at a reasonable price.

If it sells at a reasonable price, and is still the beast of a console that MS is claiming it to be, it will be sold at a loss.

If it is sold at a loss, that's less money to invest in games and third party deals.

It's not like it's leaps and bounds above the Pro (which is profitable, isn't it?). I bet it'll be priced right around that area. MS already had a hard lesson when it comes to high priced consoles, and although this time the Scorpio would actually have the hardware to back a higher price, I'm sure they realize they're treading thin ice.

It's not like it's leaps and bounds above the Pro (which is profitable, isn't it?).

Native 4K and VR compatible with Occulus? That would be a major leap over the PRO.

A major leap that would result in higher production costs. Pricing it in the "reasonable" ~$400 category like the pro would be a massive loss. Pricing it in the less reasonable $500 category would likely still be decent enough loss per console.

Well that's what they say it's going to be able to do, but hardware-wise we know it's supposed to be around 6 TFLOPS performance, 1.8 higher than the Pro's 4.2. We also know from this gen itself that Sony was able to make a system that performed about 50% better (same performance difference between the Pro and Scorpio as of yet) for less money than the XBO (even without the Kinect). Assuming MS figured out how to streamline the hardware costs better for the Scorpio, it stands to reason that they ought to be able to at least match Sony's price and not take a loss.

As for whether or not that hardware is actually capable of doing what they say it can, that's another story. It'll depend on just how much performance they can squeeze out of the hardware, but conventionally speaking it probably won't be able to do native 4K or VR on every game.

Playstation has the best hardware.

Nice try.

It's funny you bash Nintendo like that when even the Microsoft head was talking about how they had the strongest and biggest list of exclusives in the industry.

Even if the games don't appeal to you personally, there's no denying that the Super Mario platformers, Smash Bros, Metroids, Zeldas, Mariokarts, etc etc etc are all universally acclaimed and sell well. Even their newest IP (Splatoon) has been considered a superior release.

...of course if they'd bother to upgrade their hardware beyond bargain bin radioshack components, they'd probably beat Microsoft hands down

>>17, you can only count to 2 which is the number of relevant games the Xbone has.

Hahahahahahaha!

PS4!

Fun fact, there are more PS4 exclusives releasing this month, than there are Exclusives confirmed for the Xbone this year...
24 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 17:17
Almost all of those games have yet to be played by anyone. Just saying. MS had done well on getting big titles out at least. Maybe that was the problem with Scalebound. MS wanting a game out promptly, something that Japanese devs aren't known for.

Holy crap. I mean you spout some retarded BS on here and don't get me wrong, I enjoy
your logically devoid ramblings because they are actually written pretty well, but
come on. This is just stupid.

But, but...they have the deep pockets! They can afford anything! I'm sure the megaton exclusives that they'll outright buy for the xbone will happen any second now!

CLosing studios, cancelling games, cutting back on third party marketing deals, selling less consoles YoY,dwindling sales of their pillar franchises, making less on software compared to less gen...

MS going from strength to strength! Unlimited resources and money!
31 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 19:28
Microsoft hasn't cut back on marketing deals. They had more last year than Sony.

Battlefield 1
Dead Rising 4
The Division
DOOM
Titanfall 2
FIFA 17
Madden 17

MS is very much on the marketing deals because they still want people to know the Xbox brand is still kicking. The money isn't the problem for Microsoft, its the perception. Microsoft just needs to have units out there so they can have full sway over the market again.
32 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 19:54
They can afford anything... ANYTHING. But what use is it to pump money into game projects no one buys? That's why they have to double down on hardware now. MS has to make the world notice how powerful that box is.
33 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 20:19
They can afford anything... ANYTHING.

Except studios, marketing deals, third party exclusives....

Microsoft as a whole can afford anything, but their individual divisions still have budgets that they need to adhere to and aren't just given a blank check.

Given the Xbox divisions problems and the incredibly noticable effects that this gen has had on it, its pretty obvious that they need to cut back on expenditure because they can't afford to be seen as a division to pump money into with no major return.

Playstation consoles are way more powerful.

Nice try.
35 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 20:49
How am I wrong? What use is it to keep releasing new first party IPs to an audience that's apathetic to them because they're only there for 3 big franchises? Microsoft needs to sell more systems so they can have a wider audience. Power is going to be the key to solving this mess. A lot of power, for cheap.
36 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 21:01
What use is it to keep releasing new first party IPs

New IPs make the company look better than just recycling the same ideas over and over again! What use is the most powerful box if there isn't anything interesting to do with it?
37 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 21:22
I actually agree. I never buy any of MS's new exclusives (or Sony's for that matter). HaloGearsForza and third parties for me thanks.
38 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 21:27
Guess you're not into fresh ideas then! Always looking forward to the rehashed summer blockbusters, eh?
39 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 21:48
HaloGearsForza and third parties for me thanks.

That's part of the problem. Microsoft hasn't created any good new IP since last generation.

I was wondering what SuperFratBoyExtreme would have to say about his mighty powerful XBOX after the cancellation of Scalebound... Straight to blaming Sony for it was extremely laughable...
41 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-09 22:42
Wrong Microsoft ruin their first party not Sony
42 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-10 00:13
Scalebound cancelled!

The Xbone is doomed to lose another year to Sony.
43 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-10 01:15
Sony won't even win Dec 2016 NPD, and then Scorpio should take over when it's released. It's gonna be a long time, but it's worth the wait.
44 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-10 03:15
It's better to wait for awesome new games to come out!

46 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-10 05:16
Most of the Sony exclusives are just list war fluff that people won't even buy. Not really something to brag about. But, yes, I guess as a fact they do have more exclusives.
47 Name: Anonymous : 2017-01-10 05:46
Yeah, nobody in the world is gonna buy the new Hideo Kojima game or the new God Of War or the new Spider-Man game or Nioh or NieR: Automata or Horizon Zero Dawn... Have fun waiting on a spectacular box that has nothing promised for it except the specs...

Sony already won 2016.

They will win again in 2017.

Horizon isn't going to score well due to Guerilla's track record, and Nioh and Nier are not going to move the needle in any way. Be realistic, man.
