Dell unveils the 8K monitor for $5000

At CES 2017, Dell has unveiled yet another addition to their monitor product line, and this one is drool worthy: an 8K, 32" UltraSharp monitor, with an insanely high resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 at 60Hz. Labeled as the world's first 32-inch 8K resolution display with Dell PremierColor, the UP3218K offers 1.07 billion colors and packs in more than 33 million pixels - four times as many as a 4K display and 16 times more than Full HD. That means it offers a PPI rating of 280 - which translates into "very high" settings for a desktop screen.

How in the hell are you going to be able to tell the difference on a screen that small? I mean it's big for a computer moniter I guess but compared to the 50+inch TVs at 4k...

This seems absurd but it might actually be a good thing. This is obviously for the high end, enthusiast market, but that hopefully means that 4K is moving away from the high end market and into the regular consumer market. Eventually these 8K monstrosities will be mildly affordable, which means 4K will be really affordable.

That is if you even care, which tbh I don't think 8K will ever be even a remote concern for me unless I one day buy some sort of fucking 200 inch TV. I think 4K, with its most noticeable improvements being HDR instead of resolution anyway, is more or less where the average person is going to tap out. But again, affordable 4K as a result of 8K entering the high end market could happen.

$5,000 for a 60hz monitor... screw that. Nothing like glorious gaming in 8k resolution only to have screen tearing.

Haha yeah really. Tbh my bro's high end 1080p monitor looks and performs just as good as my 4K TV as far as I can tell. These resolutions are really pointless for anything other than big screens.

If with 4K alone it's already debatable we get or not improvements in big TVs... let alone 8K in a 32' TV/monitor!
