Let's play... 8K games

20fps Tomb Raider on medium with no AA.

So when will this be a real thing? 10 years? More? We're still 3 or more years away from 4K being realistic and affordable. It's expensive, takes a monsterous amount of horsepower and even then is handicapped and stuck at 60fps with TN panels. Until a single card can run an IPS 100hz 4K monitor, I'm really not interested.

How ridiculous. Most movie cinemas still only use 2K projectors, 4K at most. I cant even tell the difference between 1440p upscaled to 4K and 4k on my 60 inch screen. I suppose this will be the next invisible upgrade to sell GPUs and screens and serves no actual purpose other than to give PC fanboys something to get into a dick measuring contest over.

Maybe on a monitor but on a large TV it would definitely be noticeable.

4K is certainly not invisible. It really does look amazing, but it's still too early for the reasons I already explained (price and framerate, mostly). There's also the benefit of being able to turn down (or off) AA since it's completely unneeded at those resolutions (AA makes images slightly blurry).

And obviously that's where we're going to go eventually. Remember when a 720p plasma TV cost $8,000, had huge bezels and like 4 inches depth? It's Moore's Law. Sooner or later there will be tablets carrying the equivalent of a GTX Titan X. And the Microsoft and Sony platforms will still be trailing well behind the Master Race. I love you, anon.

It's not sustainable, though. Barring some Star Trek crystal-based quantum computer bullshit there is a limit to how far we can push the microprocessor. Eventually we'll get to a point where they can't get any smaller/faster.

Don't be too proud of this graphical feat you've accomplished. The ability to display 8K resolution is insignificant next to the power of the force. And diminishing returns.

Sorry Washclothes, but console gaming is massively superior to PC gaming and it's the only Master Race.

Ive got my PC hooked to my TV. Ive switched between 1440p and 4K in Battlefeild One and Forza Horizon 3 and literally could not see the slightest difference from the couch on a 60 inch screen. The difference between 4k and 8k would be even smaller. Why on earth do we need Imax resolutions for video games? Every resolution increase pays off less than the last, and at this point its just getting silly. All those computer resources going to waste.

This is for when they install a massive screen on Trump's wall and you need to get rid of the jaggies.

4K is already a very debatable improvement and this is gonna take some years to really scale up, let alone 8K.

THIS JUST IN! Microsoft and Sony already attempting to develop an 8K console because nerds just discovered that it's the new thing.
