New Paper Mario coming to Wii-U?

According to Nintendo insider aficionado Emily Rogers on Twitter, five sources have confirmed that Intelligent Systems (of Paper Mario, Fire Emblem and Advance Wars fame) is developing a new entry for Nintendo's current console.

"The game is currently being localised and tested," Rogers added.

Pretty trustworthy source, and Nintendo have talked about 'unannounced first party titles' in their last couple of quarterly business calls.

I wouldn't normally give a sh-t - but Intelligent Systems are the bomb.

but Intelligent Systems are the bomb.

After Super Paper Mario and Paper Mario: Sticker Star, I'm done with Paper Mario.

Neither of those was done by Intelligent Systems.

Edit: Turns out that's wrong, I'll get my coat.

Although, unlike the first two PM games (and all of their other best efforts) they are not listed (on Wikipedia) as the sole developer.

Make of that as you will.

And Nintendo continues to skilfully avoid any IPs people might actually give a crap about.

Paper Mario - 1.37m
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - 1.91m
Super Paper Mario - 4.23m
Paper Mario: Sticker Star - 2.21m

I'd take a new Paper Mario over most IPs released for PS and Xbox.

I've always liked the Paper Mario games. The Cube one and Wii one are good fun.

I guess we can only expect a few more new games for the U...

I've always had a chip on my shoulder for Paper Mario, like just because it's not Super Mario RPG. That doesn't seem fair, though.

What would be a good one to try?

Maybe Super Paper Mario (the Wii one)

Pretty charming and makes good use of the wii-mote. The Thousand year door is also really good (the Cube one). That one is a little more RPG-ish where the Wii one is a bit more platformer.

I would start with them the order they released. People are divided on Super Paper Mario and if it is good or not. I enjoy it but it is taking me forever to finish it. I prefer rpgs that have a good story but the gameplay and humor is fantastic.

I am not acknowledging Sticker as they took away the level up system which pissed fans off.

Yeah, they have a pretty good track record. Although, their last Paper Mario efforts were kind of crap.

Anyone blaming Intelligent Systems for Sticker Star is gravely mistaken. They were developing a more traditional Mario game, but Miyamoto stepped in and insisted the game be more "original" thus removing the partners and traditional battle system as well as saying they couldn't use any new original characters.

I love Miyamoto but there are some series he clearly needs to stay away from.

Do we know what it originally would have been like? I like super paper mario but it feels kind of forced to me and overlong.

I never did get around to playing any Paper Mario games. Maybe I'll give it a try. I was hoping for a Luigi's Mansion release on the Wii U myself. That's long over due.

I would like that to happen. I enjoyed Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario. A Paper Mario game on the Wii U feels inevitable.

Paper Mario games are boring.

Where's Super Mario Galaxy 3???
