Pachter believes Nintendo hardware will go away next gen:

“They are more than a decade behind the curve, and they are so insular that there is no desire internally to learn from others,” Pachter said. “Nintendo hardware goes away. There is a place for their content. There is no place for Nintendo hardware. Nobody cares. They will have to abandon hardware.”
2 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 16:54
When has Pachter ever been right about anything?
3 Name: SuperFratBoyExtreme : 2014-09-06 16:55
Will this be the one time he's right?

One can only hope.
4 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 16:56
He's right, but I wouldn't trust Nintendo's games in the hands of any other console devs
5 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 16:56
Holy shit, big Nintendo hardware sales coming up. This is wonderful news for them.
6 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 16:56
Taking opinions from a certified retard
I guess Nintendo is here to stay then?

Hasn't Pachter been wrong about pretty much everything he's said? That would mean Nintendo hardware isn't going anywhere for the time being.

Yes he has, he said Nintendo would have a new console, three years later Wii U, see he was right.
9 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 16:58
So, in other words Nintendo will release a console more than a decade ahead of the curve after learning so much from others.

However, there is no longer a place for their content, only their hardware.
Everybody cares so much that Nintendo despite its best efforts, cannot kill the system.

So sayeth Pachter
10 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 16:58
Nintendo does need to drop gimmick shit though. They lost casuals because of phones, and people who actually buy games don't want a gimmick controller like the fucking Gamepad

Which Nintendo hardly uses anyways, most of their main franchises used it like their DS titles did 10 years ago
11 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 16:58
Welp, I guess that means that Nintendo's gonna win this gen. Guess I better go sell my PS4 for a Wind Waker WiiU before they sell out.

Literally EVERYTHING he says, the exact opposite comes true.

That one about the PS3 wasn't a total loss; it HAS come a long way since it launched, but it did take a bit long for that to happen.
16 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:01
According to the pattern, nintendo will be the only one left in the market of closed consoles, but WiiU will be a massive failure like the first xbox and PSvita.
17 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:01
Patcher is a shill. He and his companies have money in Sony and Microsoft. He is not "analysing" Nintendo, he is trying to push opinions on people that directly benefits him. He's PR.
18 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:02
Patcher is a fucking idiot. Nearly everything he says, the complete opposite happens.
19 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:02
>>17
Actually he's a step above a shill.
You see, those companies with shareholders don't work for getting more money, they work for getting the stock value higher.
All the shareholders care for and manipulate the company into is to quickly inflate the stockprice.

And patcher is not talking to you here, he's talking to the stock market, trying to change the numbers.
20 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:03
Someone post that video where Patcher rants on for 10 minutes because some guy said he doesn't care about game journalism and uses adblock.
21 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:03
Without the gamepad it would just be a terrible PC, like the xbox and ps. Sony started this impossible to win race against PCs for consoles and that will be their downfall. Xbone was doomed from the start, but might stick aroumd as a neat multimedia device once this NSA scare dies down. Ninty will stick around being the only company still making fun games for its consoles
22 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:04

and what has the Gamepad offered that couldn't be done on a controller? Dragging items in ZombiU, drawing things to Morph in W101 which is easier to do with the analog stick anyways? Hell in 3D Worlds they reused some of the DS/3DS stuff with blowing into the mic and pulling out platforms to use

Gamepad was a awful fucking move, and at best its a small time saver for switching items around in Zelda U like it was in WWHD
23 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:04

Nintendo's games would still be fun if you remove the gimmick, and without the gimmick third parties would actually release shit on it since the price of the console isn't weighed down by having it sold with a gamepad.

Galaxy didn't need the waggle, it was great, Sunshine and 64 didn't need gimmicks and they were great. 3D World used the Gamepad in the same exact ways they used it in DS/3DS Mario games, absolutely nothing brought to the table that wasn't done before.

against PCs
No console maker cares, because they don't compete against PC for sales since their average consumer doesn't give a shit about PCs.
>>22
If you think they're doing shitty now - they'd be doing even worse if they went that route.
Only because they kind of lost their market since Playstation entered. I am fine with Nintendo hardware, but just keep it at handhelds. If they want a console, I don't want to buy it at launch for 350 for a Gamepad gimmick that hardly anything uses when the PS4 launches for 400.

Same reason the Xbone didn't do so hot even in its big market. Besides the price gap, nothing used the Kinect in a way where people who weren't interested were now interested. All the launch games used it for shit the 360 Kinect did or dumb shit like headtracking in Forza 5 and BF4

BF4 head tracking
it has a lean feature better than the PC version of BF4 since DICE went full retard and removed lean in BF3 and reimplemented it horribly in 4

I sure fucking wish nintendo stops with their hardware shit.

Gettin real fucking tired of series that I like, like zelda, being stuck as wii/wii u exclusives and making me emulate them.
25 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:05
the opposite of everything Pachter says comes true
Welp. Nintendo confirmed for abandoning software development and moving into hardware exclusively.
26 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:07

Ehhh... Not only would that create a monopoly, which is never good but... I dunno. I'm not the biggest fan of the PS4, like, at all. It may be much more powerful but everything else about it is downright shit in someways.

The only thing I'd want Sony to teach Nintendo is
1.Proper Account System
2.No more Region Lock
And that's about it. Because other than that and the Power I much prefer the Wii U as a game system. Just has a better feel.

PS4 feels like a clunky entertainment system a bit too much for me.
27 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:07
The opposite of whatever Patcher predicts always comes true. I don't know how this fuck keeps a job.

Nintendo games only belong on Nintendo hardware. Nintendo doesn't go for the market that Microsoft and Sony fight for. They provide unique games that you just couldn't get on the other platforms.

Because there was so much 3rd party support for the gc? Western 3rd party simply like to stick to sony and ms instead of nintendo, they didnt come when nintendo massively outsold the competitors and they didnt come when nintendo had a gimmickless console that was also more powerful than most competitors.
29 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:08
That one Pachter video where he's supposed to talk about Nintendo's E3 presence and games, but instead goes on an 8 minute rant about how Nintendo's dead because they don't invite him to parties anymore
30 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:08
Every first party game I've played on the Wii U looks great and runs faster than most PS3/PS4 games.

I will say though I wish more 3DS RPGs were on the Vita instead. That shitty resolution is just no good.

Dunno man - The experimentation they've been doing is incredibly hit or miss, that's true but considering the shit they got when they first unveiled the DS and what came of that, I understand why they keep on doing what they do.

Also, giving up consoles would have been seen as a sign of weakness in the company and would have plummeted their stocks to the point that people would have doubts about their handhelds. That would have been a silly move to make - and besides the PS3 was able to recover despite many, many missteps:

$600
Move
Account hacks

I wouldn't be surprised if the WiiU and the XB1 managed to recover sometime this gen and end up at least breaking even if not turning a decent profit.

Michael Pachter, a games industry analyst who basically uses his position to spew bullshit. None of what he has said has ever come to fruition.
33 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:10
I see Patcher and the neofag crew starting up the nintenDOOMED nonsense again.

Nobody believes you faggots anymore, you've cried wolf to many times.
34 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:10
I really don't like the gamepad, but I have heard many people say they love it. You can move shit off the screen like maps and do basic tasks on it. Then there is off TV play for children or poor fucks who have to share TVs with other people. I still prefer regular controllers but there is a market for the gamepad.
35 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:11
And yet sony was the first one to make make multiplats not exclusive to their platforms or os out of the three.
Pachter should really do some research
36 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:11

Wii U gamepad is comfy as fuck. I'd totally buy wider, naturally spaced controllers if they were available for Sony consoles.
And I can play Wii U games while taking a shit.

No, I remember people saying the same thing when the Gamecube was out. People would say it was the worst Nintendo console ever.
38 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:11
“They are more than a decade behind the curve, and they are so insular that there is no desire internally to learn from others,

Harsh but true, Nintendo Hardware is years behind PS4 and Xbone and what is worse they are a decade behind online gaming when you compare E-shop to PSN or Xbox live and what it is worse is that they don't seem to understand online gaming while the rest of the industry is trying to figure out games as a service with subscription models, cloud computing and streaming services, Nintendo in that area is decades behind its competition.
39 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:12
Pachter is the only dude who makes predictions about the gaming industry and actually gets paid for it.

Making predictions about any industry will make you look very stupid in a very short amount of time.
40 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:12
They are all going to go away. Normalfags are already abandoning ship for cellphone games and there aren't enough core gamers to support multi million dollar AAA turds. They backed the wrong pony.

I hope the industry burns to the ground and we go back to people that like games making games.
41 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:13
There is no desire to learn from others

Well perhaps they are doing the right thing no?
The way I see it, the entire industry is moving towards impending stagnation and Nintendo is the only one smart enough to see it and go against the flow.

If Nintendo actually entered the horsepower rat race, gaming would officially be dead with 3 consoles offering the same thing with third parties developing the same games forever till another crash.

This guy understands business theories but he doesn't understand the what he wants is going to homogenize the fucking industry.
42 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:13
Iwata was right. We hit a point where shit can't look much better than it does without great performance loss. Nintendo aims for people who like playing video games, not for people who let games play them.
43 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:13
The way I see it, the entire industry is moving towards impending stagnation and Nintendo is the only one smart enough to see it and go against the flow.

I don't think you seem to understand Patcher's view on what Nintendo is behind the times.

He is mostly talking of Sony's PS Now and MS involvement in azure and how to translate that to gaming.

I mean, Sony is looking to develop tech for a future with no consoles at all, MS is trying to figure out how to enchant its current console (and perhaps futures) with cloud computing while Nintendo's involvement with the internet is minimal at best and only a handful of its titles have online features.

This sounds like brainwashing. Remember Nintendo was the only manufacturer to release a SD console because they though "HD" wasn't going to be big, 7 years later everyone own a HD TV and playing a Wii on it looks like fucking ass.

Sorry, Nintendo is only making excuses for not investing more money into R&D and make a more powerful console, they only seem to cater to their own needs, that is why no one develops for Wii U.
45 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:34
So Sony is working on tech to make getting the product to people in a way it is cheaper for them, and secures a wider potential audience.

Microsoft is (still) trying to turn their console into your satellite/cable box, movie player, smart TV, all-in-one family entertainment center combo.

And Nintendo just wants to make video games.
46 Name: Anonymous : 2014-09-06 17:45
You are thinking about their core gameplay? Like how 2d Mario, 3d Mario, Zelda etc plays similar?

What I was talking about is what you guys always call "gimmicks", which I honestly think is good in the long run.

If Nintendo never tried to differentiate from competitors, we would just end up having the same control schemes with same graphical capabilities for god knows how long.

Even though people laugh at Nintendo for motion controls and dual screens when they first came out, I respect the fact that they dared to take a risk in going somewhere where others wouldn't.
Sure it made some cringeworthy crap but it also became a testing ground for people to explore motion controls and its possibilities.
That risk-taking to try new things isn't stagnation but expanding horizons in my book.

Also i don't agree that Nintendo is stagnating in terms of gameplay anyway.
The core gameplay is the same but every new iteration always added new ways to play, entirely new level designs that actually affect gameplay etc.
It is a hit or miss like sticker star / other m but at the same time they also produce some ridiculously creative game like Mario galaxy.

Well as a company it make sense to look for way to popularize your business, being able to play every game on PS1/2/3 from any smart TV with an App a la Netflix it could become a great revenue generator, it makes sense to go after it. I don't see an issue with this.

I also don't see an issue with MS trying to use its infrastructure to help games in any way (look for that tech demo in how cloud computing can help to create complete environmental destruction on games).

What I see as an issue is a company that still don't understand the internet, a company which I need 2 account systems to use their products and that are tie down to hardware, a company that doesn't seem to be looking to evolve in any way and that still think we are in the 80's.

He's actually a highly paid analyst for wedbush morgan securities.

He makes more in a year than you'll likely make in the next decade. He's got a huge house, a wife and kids and a shit load of money. He's paid extremely well for making his bullshit predictions about the industry every year.

Seriously is he retarded
