Refusal to adapt to optical disks turned off 3rd parties and it just snowballed from there. They got lucky with the original Wii's gimmick scratching an itch that a very large audience had at the time.

They gained the casual market with the wii, whivh they should have kept, but decided they wanted the "hardcore" market with the wii U.
