had ridiculous amount of games of Gameboy
most original Pokemon games, Tetris
grew up on Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart, Pokemon Stadium 1/2, Super Mario 64
PS2 and Gamecube appear in house out of nowhere
continue to grow up on Melee, Zelda, original CoD, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Kingdom Hearts, some DBZ fighters, Quidditch World Cup
become near-pro-level at DDR
DS games later, Ace Attorney, Nintendogs, Trauma Center
get Wii, No More Heroes, Zelda:TP, Trauma Center, Brawl
get XBOX 360
L4D, TF2, Portal, CoD (stopped caring at MW), Oblivion, Deadrising, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock
recently beat Dragon Age 2
and this all barely scratches the surface

present day
still buy games to this date and have a nice collection (especially indie) on PC
internet gaming community
plus guys from school
"hahaha you play video games?"
"you don't play games, what bullshit"
"you can't play video games!"
feel like I have to actually prove I play video games
sure let me dig up the possibly-thousands of dollars and hours spent on all this
all because I have a vagina and tits.

it's actually really shitty to feel like you don't exist and to be called out as a fake all the goddamn time. I can't enjoy my goddamn games and talk about them with others because people don't believe a girl plays the vidya.

Blame the trendy idiots who adopt the "gamer" identity because they maybe played part of a Zelda once. Also, this happens to guys, too. Any time someone claims to be part of something that someone else is super invested in, that second person will naturally find ways to "test" the first person and make sure they're legit. The more that dudebros and trendy bitches take on the hobby because it's popular, the more those deep into it will feel the need to test everyone.

It happened less in the past because only people truly into the hobby would even admit to liking games, but as more and more people said things like, "I love games! My favorite is [Farmville, CoD, Madden, etc]" the more people wanted to defend their status and hobby.

Look no further than /games/: Any time someone brings up an opposing opinion about a game that person is instantly grilled about their taste in games and asked to list what games are their favorites and all that shit, because everyone feels that person has to prove their worth before their opinion can hold any weight in the discussion.

I don't get why so many women get deeply offended by standard social hazing processes. I've also had to prove to people in school or work or wherever plenty of times that I'm a "legit gamer," and I'm a dude. It happens to everyone, not just women. Stop demanding to be accepted without proving yourself.

Even if they are, that's just a very convenient alert saying to avoid these people at all costs.
