There is a corn maze, probably around an hour and a half from where I live. It's right off the side of the "highway," which is just a fairly busy road out there, because it's a rural area. Anyway, this is the corn maze:
http://www.hickscornmaze.com/ I drove past it with my cousin's family last year, and it just hit me that we missed a great opportunity for some Children of the Corn jokes, AND jokes about The Shining. What a missed opportunity. We even had three children in the car, two girls and a boy, and my camera, so we could have shot a short movie. Something about the hedge maze from the movie... Or, the two girls could have played the ghost sisters from The Shining, and said "Come and play with us Danny" to the boy, who is still at the age where riding Big Wheels is a pretty reasonable way to spend time... I don't know if we could have found a Big Wheels bike at the corn maze, but we could bring one if we ever go back. If we wanted to make a short movie based on Children of the Corm... maybe we could have had the boy leap out of the corn and yell OUTLANDER!!!!! at the girls, or at me.
Anyway, we blew it. Totally missed opportunity. I'm just thinking, if we ever go back there, there is also a river right across the street (called the Deerfield River), and even better, a cemetery, right next to the corn maze. If they didn't have to worry about copyright issues, they could make a whole Stephen King theme park, right there.
So, if we ever go back there, I want to be ready with several ideas about funny little horror movies we could make, that the kids would enjoy in a few years when they are a little older. There must be lots of Stephen King scenes set in cemeteries... there are some in Salem's Lot, for example. But, I can't think of any that involve rivers. Can anyone think of a good one??
